We visited St John 4 years ago for our 3rd. trip and planning another one for next year. Was wondering if anything has changed such as new stores, roads, anything thing that was not there 4 years ago? Thanks
There's definitely more shops at Mongoose Junction and there's also an entrance fee now for trunk bay. Rumbalya restaurant in cruz bay is now called high tide. Taxi rates are up. Understandably so due to the increased cost of gas. The ferry over to st john is now $5 a person. It used to be 3$. What time of year are you guys going?
Were going the end of June next year. I also heard along with the ferry rates there's now a $3.00 per bag fee. Is that correct? Not a big deal to us just wondering. If someone cant go to the St.John and afford that then there in big trouble. lol Thanks for any and all up-dated information. I like to be a very informed vacationer.
$2 per bag, very liberal about attaching smaller bags to big ones so only one bag fee. Cab fares are higher. But the best new thing on St. John is the new lookout platform at the top of Caneel Hill, it has made the view 300% better. Absolutely stunning views south to st. Croix, west to St. Thomas and Vieques, and north to BVI. Well worth the strenuous walk (about 1/2 to 1 hour) from town.
Can you get to the lookout by car? We will have four kids in tow and would love to see the lookout without too much of a walk. We always take the car ferry over. How much is the fee to get into Trunk Bay? I think they might have charged in 2004 when we were there too.
If you're looking for the best view by car, go to the one on centerline road next to Chateau Bordeau (spell check?) restaurant. As good as if not better than the one on Caneel Hill, which could be considered a strenuous hike unaccessable by car. There are many scenic overlooks all along North Shore and Centerline rides, with a variety of fantastic views.
I think Aqua Bistro, a restuarant on Salt pond road, and maybe the shopping center that it is in, is all new within the past few years. As for views without walking, Route 10 going to the East End has some great panaramic views of the BVI. Other than that, it is just the same paradise of lazy days, warm blue water, and limin'.
Personally, I have a bad case of island fever but can't get back until November.
