Saw a post the other day about the restaurant, etc being boarded up. Any new info? Is this more of the same dispute that has had the retaurant and bar open and closed off and on for the better part of the last year?

everyone will probably be going to Trunk from the cruise ship. You *could* do sapphire....or see if you can be a day visitor at the WEstin in St. John...they are the only ones I know of that have the water trampoline.

Cinnamon Bay has good facilities as well....

Just got back from STT and when "real" time kicks in, I'll be writing a trip report. SOOO tired, but a good tired.

We were at Sapphire this past week and it's still a beautiful beach with great snorkeling. It very clean and you can still rent beach chairs, snorkeling gear, etc. I've never seen the beach so packed with people and there was only 1 cruise ship in that day. The resort looked pretty busy.

The tennis courts look very nice also. They weren't done in November when we were there last.

There was somebody cooking up hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, some fish sandwiches and also Thor is on the beach taking orders for food from the Grapevine.

Red Hook is so close that nobody is going to starve.

I'd love to rent at Sapphire again. It's a perfect place to stay.

Thanks for the good news. I knew it couldn't have gotten as bad as people were saying since I was there last there last January.

Hi all,
first post so please forgive any etiquette violations.
We just got back from our bi-annual week in our timeshare at Sapphire Beach (we usually give away the week in the intervening year).
We were in unit D302.
Expectations were low having read some of the recent posts prior to departing for the island and because we had seen the gradual decline in the facility over the last 9 years.
First, we didn't buy at Sapphire Beach because we thought we were getting the Ritz at a lower price. It is what it is: peaceful, relaxing, quaint (in a sense) and well situated.
It would have been nice were the pool bar and shop open as these are the on-site facilities that we used most regularly. We don't really miss the other facilities except that seeing things boarded up is a real first impression negative.
We too enjoyed the food at the mini bbq between buildings B and C - especially the chicken sandwich - grilled fresh.
Our villa was fine as usual - clean and cleaned daily. The fridge was a bit rusty on the outside but worked just fine.

Now to the scoop?!
I was chatting to a local at the Wyndham (their bar and restaurants are open) and he said that the owner of the land at Sapphire beach had been putting the squeeze on the building owners for years and had not allowed any maintenance/upgrades to the bar & restaurant etc. Apparently there was a lawsuit that was recently decided against the land owner ("Moor...." somebody I vaguely recall, being full of rum at the time). This chap then volunteered for us to wait a couple of years by which point things would have improved at the property.

That's what were going to do.

Nick

Hey Nick...hope you had a great time. Could you give us a trip report?

Sapphire is truly a great place to stay at a reasonable price.
