We usually go to STJ but will be staying near Hull Bay on STT this year for a week in May. My senior aunt will be accompanying us. She loves to swim in the ocean but does not like crowds to see her do it (lol). Have tried to keep up with what has been going on with Lindqvist and whether or not the fence is down and folks can again drive in but the online news seems to have dried up. Would appreciate any current info / recommendations / directions to any similar quiet beaches. If respondees prefer to e-mail, please send to [email protected]. THANKS so much!!

Nothing wrong at all with Hull Bay. Hardly anyone there at all. Lindqvist is still open, but better in large groups.

Thanks, Ronnie. We usually stay on STJ and on STT, we have stayed mostly in the Peterborg area or on the east end and haven't yet been to Hull Bay. I'm hoping it is close to parking so my aunt won't have to walk very far from the car. That's the second nice thing about Lindqvist (the first being that it is a beautiful beach), in addition to the availability of shade. I think I understand what you mean about better in large groups. We found that to be the case on weekends but, would you say that the same now applies to weekdays as well? I appreciate your input.

You will love Hull. You basically park on the sand! Plenty of trees. A bar/restaurant across the street.

Ronnie - Thanks, again. If I'm reading reading between your lines correctly, then I am really disappointed that this beautiful area has become less than it once was (sigh). That is a shame. We will try Hull with my aunt and try to get her to one of the beaches on STJ that has easy access to the parking - maybe Maho, early in the day. Another couple of questions: (1) What are Dorothea Beach / Carat Bay Beach like and is there any type of beach at Tropaco Point? and, (2) I had heard that it was possible to pick up fresh catch, like snapper, at Hull Bay from one of the fisherman and that they would also clean / filet the catch for you - is that a possibility or is there a better place to pick up fresh fish ready for the grill? Thanks!

Nothingto read between the lines about. No need to travel halfway across the island to get to a beach. Now Lindqvist does have the notoriety of having lurkers hiding in the bush to do robberies. It hasn't been reported in quite a while, maybe the police are patrolling the area, but no reason to take a chance!
Dorothea is nice but not a sandy beach. Can't answer for Caret Bay. One you may want to look for is Neljteberg. It's next to Hull, walkable from Dorothea, but you can access it from another road that is quite a bumpy ride to get to.
You are right about the fish, other than that you would have to come into town to get some, as thet's where they head to sell them.

Good - I'm so glad to be wrong about what I thought you were trying to tell me. We will go to Hull and will see if we can get to Neljteberg. We might still check out Lindqvist, too, but early on a weekday, then go to lunch out on the east end - love the BLue Moon Cafe and that is a nice beach for the afternoon. In case we miss the fish at Hull - where in town would we find them? We only know Pueblo and Star Market and places like that for groceries. Thanks!

Pelican beach, which is located next to Sapphire is almost always deserted. Yet I think it is safe due to it's proximity to Sapphire. Get a good map and wear shoes to walk from the road to the beach, but you will have it to yourself on most days.

A good map? We have been trying to get one of those for ages. Do you have a source, and, if so, will you share?? (I feel like I'm talking about a controlled sustance here - lol - we have never been able to find a decent map with even some of the offshoot roads and trails. Thanks!

I hope you don't mind my bringing up another site here, but Anthony has just introduced a new interactive map on the usvi-on-line.com website that can get quite detailed.

By the stadium there is a fruit stand that has fish in the am. Check it out. You might get lucky. Also ask around at Frenchtown. People there might be able to point you in the right direction.

Good luck!
