We are going to STT on a house exchange in November. That means we will stay in a condo that is self contained. I have read about super markets here on the forum. But are there any marketplaces on the island for fruit and veggies?
There are a few roadside fruit/vegetable stands located around the island. Those I'm familiar with are all on Route 38 heading East towards Red Hook. Coming from town, all on the left, the first one is on Weymouth Rhymer Highway between Raphune Hill and Market Square East. Then there are three close together in Smith Bay center right before the turnoff to Coki Beach. After going through Red Hook there is another on the right hand side of the road just past the Eudora Kean High School. Hope that helps for a start!
Thank you STT Resident. We are staying in the east end so your information is just what I needed.
And most of the markets (if not all) sell produce that is popular with people who cook popular Caribbean dishes. You'll probably find West Indian sweet potatoes, tania, peppers, tomatoes, bananas (both green and yellow), papaya, limes, breadfruit, honey, spinach, etc, but you probably won't find string beans, broccoli, grapes, etc. For those items you'll have to go to a grocery store like Plaza Extra.
You may want to check out Fruit Bowl at Wheatly Center - excellent fruit and veg!
