This is my first time, ever, to be on a messageboard, so please, be patient with me. There are 5 of us women coming to St. Thomas in Oct. We will be staying at the Antilles Resort. I have read a lot of the messages on this forum, and am really confused!!! Some of the travelers loved the resort, and others hated it? This is our first trip to the islands, and I don't want it to be ruined because of a lousy resort. Can anyone clarify all this for me?
Thank you!!

We stayed at the Antilles Resort Sapphire Beach. They are the right on the beach... your back door is only a few steps to the water! My husband & I stayed there for the first time this year. We've stayed at a different place each time we went (4 times) and Sapphire is by far our favorite and plan to stay there on many upcoming trips.

The room isn't anything special but it is nice and has a fully stocked kitchen which comes in handy.

The snorkeling is terrific and there is a wonderful view of st. john which looks great lite up at night!

If you're staying with Antilles, make sure that your taxi driver from the airport knows this and he doesn't take you to the Sapphire Beach lobby... they are 2 separte companies. The antilles building is a little building just past (east of) the Sapphire Beach entrance. You'll check in there and they will have someone drive you to your room.

Have fun on your trip!

Rich, I was just curious because we are getting married in St. John in February also and have planned everything via internet and definately relied on this board to help us out. I've planned everything from photographers, to videographers, to villas and car rentals. If you guys need any info I've got tons. Jill

There's been a bit of an upheaval of late, with Antilles Resorts having basically taken over the whole management of the Sapphire Beach Resort complex when they had priorly owned only a percentage of the units.

The changeover has manifested some problems, as in their raising bar prices way out of line with the norm here and not keeping up with food service. However, and I'm just being Devil's advocate here (!) changeovers are always difficult and I think that once Antilles Resorts gets into the swing of operating the whole place, all will be well.

My niece from England stayed at one of the Antilles-owned units at Sapphire a couple of years ago and it was very, very nice. The unit was well-maintained, extremely comfortable and overlooked the beach.

There are plenty of good restaurants within easy reach and the units are equipped with 'fridge/freezers, stove, pots, pans and utensils, etc.

Bonita, don't fuss and muss - all you girls will really enjoy yourselves and have a toadally good time. If you need any more info, just ask!

STT Resident,

Thanks for your input!! We are really looking forward to our first visit to your beautiful islands. Hopefully it won't be our lasr!

I have seen many pros and cons about taking our rentalcar to St. John for the day. Any hints or suggestions?
