I'm thinking about staying here in October and any info about this place would be great. Thanks.

Bill: I haven't stayed there, but a few comments I have gleaned from others...First the units are up high with a lovely view, but are not beachfront. One guy wrote about the glorious sunrises recently. There is an upscale restaurant, Agave Terrace and a beachfront casual restaurant, Fungi's. It is next door to the Renaissance and close to Red Hook for other activities. I don't know why no one answered you, although maybe they were puzzled by the name, as most call it just Point Pleasant! Hope that helps a little!!

I haven't stayed there as a visiter... 🙂 However had a friend stay there for a week... and he really enjoyed it, found the rooms/suites/apartments (which ever you call it) large... views lovely and the area peaceful... another couple I know also rented there and had the same remarks... I have been told that some buildings differ from others as they have different owners... you might ask Antilles Properties about this. I visited both friends when they stayed there... and the place reminded me of apartments as the "rooms" had kitchens, full living rooms, furniture like an apartment would be... and were large and spacious... it did not strike me as a resort if that is the feel you were looking for.

Islander,
I have been looking at staying at Secret Harbour but thats $133 a nite with Point Pleasant only $61. For that kind of savings, I can use the money for dinners, activites and so on. I'm still debating about it though.

Hello Bill,

Secret Harbor is what you might expect for a island beach resort... nice swimming pool, lovely beach with hammocks and lounge chairs, beach bar and restaurant, some rooms right on the beach... so that is what you are paying for. As mentioned Point Pleasant is a tucked away on a hillside... seems very private, spaciuos rooms like apartments with lovely views. I think part of your decision should be on whether you want to be on the beach or if you want to spend more time beach hopping and driving around and seeing different things.

Hey islander,
Any info on either Crystal Cove Beach Resort or Sapphire Village Resort? Thanks.

Hello Bill,

Sapphire is nice... also a beach facility, not as quiet as Secret Harbor. Sapphire Village is different from Sapphire Resort. Sapphire Village is up on the hill over the marina.... I have been in a couple of the buildings and they were nice, small kitchenette, living room and bed room, balconies overlooking the water, pool nearby, beach in walking distance down paths and steps. Sapphire Resort which shares the same beach but is right down on the shore... is also nice - great if you want beach front rooms - so you can just walk out onto the sand. Crystal Cove is also on Sapphire Beach... almost like an apartment complex but with individual cottages around a man-made pond/lake... with ducks 🙂 and close to the beach. Antilles Resorts has properties or manages properties at all these resorts (Sapphire Beach Resort, Sapphire Village, Crystal Cove and Point Plesant... but I figure you know that. 🙂

Shultz I hope might add some opionions on Secret Harbor and Sapphire... as I recall he has stayed at both and shared opionions on this before.

Islander,
Let me ask you this. Point Pleasant is $61.50/nite, Crystal Cove is $66, Sapphire Village is $56.25 and Antille Resort at Sapphire Beach is $70.50 a nite. Which would you take? Keep in mind that this is what I'd like to do. A couple days going over to St. John, a trip to the BVI's, maybe rent jet ski's, Coki Beach, maybe Secret Harbour for a day. Staying at one of these places will allow me to get rent a car, and get food for breakfast's. I'd rather spend money on activities and not all of it on a room but I don't want a dump. I hope I'm not confusing and let me know what you think. Thanks.
Bill

Hello Bill, Ok considering what you want to do - and by the way your plan is great you will have a wonderful time!!! - I picture that you will grab some complimentary breakfast, your map, your towel and out the door you will go to explore the island - having that in mind certainly any of the four would do... however I would lean toward Sapphire because its close to the beach :-). Between Sapphire Beach and Sapphire VIllage - I think the $14 difference should be weighed out this way; is your beach room really on the beach - like you can walk out onto the sand - that would be great in my opinion - for early morning walks on the beach or in the evening to lay in one of the hammocks (if they are out) but again if you aren't planning to stick around there every day then the Saphire Village room would be fine and incidently is the least $$... the village rooms are a short walk to the beach and jet skis that are at the marina - not terriably far and its a nice walk (maybe 7-10 minutes down some stairs, around the marina and onto the beach or you can drive down in a couple minutes.

(Do keep in mind that if you have a beach front room at Sapphire that on Sundays the beach gets busy and on some weekdays when cruise ship folks might come there for the day... so if you do plan to hang around your place - there may be people around... if beach isn't important and you don't want people then Point Pleasant will be more private.)

I have been around all four spots, and in rooms in three (never been in any rooms at Colony Cove - but have inadvertantly looked in the doors when walking by 🙂 - But you have to keep in mind that as mentioned it would be hard to judge one room at the same place to another because I think that all the rooms Antilles has are privately owned - like a management company.. so the decor would be that of the owner's liking... in any case I would lean toward Sapphire. (You got some really good prices - was going to ask if you were coming during off-season - but I just noted October. The prices in the rate sheet I have ... say that Sapphrie Beach rooms are around $175, Point Pleasant around $180, Sapphire VIllage $130 and Crystal Cove $140)

You said staying at one of these places will allow you to rent a car and great breakfast... do the other three not offer complimentary breakfast???

Those are prices from expedia.com....................they are running 25% off specials.........I don't know about the complimentary breakfast. I just figured staying in a place w/a kitchen, will allow me to go out and get groceries. Originally I was looking at staying at Secret Harbour but it's $133.50/nite so that's why staying at one of these places and making breakfast everyday will allow me to have extra money to rent a car and drive the island and use it over at St. John too. I think I'll take your advice with the Antilles Resort at Sapphire Beach. Thanks.

Bill - yes if there is a kitchenette or full kitchen you will definately save on food... you can make breakfast... pack picnic lunchs... have some dinners in... great idea. (I quess the wording through me off... just figured you meant that one of the places offered breakfast...) In any case glad you are narrowing down the accomodations... now you can start planning all the things you want to do - if you have any other questions feel free to ask.

Thanks for covering this topic. I have been researching a stay at the Point Pleasant property for the end of October. I have read mixed messages on other boards about this property. Here's their web site if you need more information: http://www.pointpleasantresort.com/.
