'Lattes' in AYH in Red Hook - not a bakery but baked goods and excellent coffee with an outstanding view for morning relaxing -- St Martin, at least on the French side have it all over the VI for bakeries and food overall.

There is coffee place in Yacht Haven (much closer than Red Hook) with is good and has small selection of baked goods. Can't remember the name (something Hawian). order your coffee than wander over and check out the boats. Good place to bring a kid.

BUdda's Belly has good coffee and eats.

Admittedly, with two kids in college I never spend $$ on b-fest out anymore, so there are probably more good spots...

It's Bad Ass Coffee in Yacht Haven Grande and Barefoot Buddha across from Havensight. Barefoot Buddha isn't even close to the water, but they have good, "healthy" pastries. Many are made with whole wheat flour and honey. I love their cornbread.

Sigh. The baked goods here aren't of the same quality as you'll find in the States or in St Martin, so don't get your hopes up on these. In the VI, the dumb bread with cheese is the breakfast bread of choice. It's pretty dense, not light and airy.

L&J's Latte in town on the Waterfront has a decent baked good selection, and if you're lucky, you can get a table at the front so you can look out into the harbor. It gets crowded at around 8:15, because many of the people who work in town buy their coffee there.

there is a place in crown bay center called costa java, it's on the water, or you can at least sit outside, and they offer pastries and some fresh baked items. cannot find a web site for them and have not been in awhile, but it's a pleasant place to sit down to a cuppa.

I'm pretty sure Costa Java is only open when there's a ship at Crown Bay.
