Planning a trip to St. Thomas in November and we were wondering about the Anchorage Beach Resort.
The location sounds like it is fine, being walking distance to other beaches, Red Hook, ferry, ect., but I am more concerned about the overall condition of the facility. have the rooms been updated? Is it true that when making a reservation, that we ask for the American Blding (closest to the beach) or get on a higher floor of any building for a better view of the surrounding area? Any info would be a big help! Reservations need to be made soon.
Jim: First of all, I would beg to differ as to whether you can walk to other beaches from the Anchorage...it would be way farther than you think, on roads that are not meant for pedestrians. Second, it is not really a resort, but a condo complex that rents out some units on a short term basis. They have nice tennis courts, small pool, Arthur's Restaurant on the property. Also they are next door to the St Thomas Yacht Club and are within walking distance of the Cowpet condo complexes/restaurants. I bet that the units vary, but have some standards they have to meet. The closest building is next to the beach, but does not overlook it directly. And, yes, I would get one of the higher units to try to get a better view.
My uncle and his family stayed at the Anchorage when they came over Thanksgiving.
The unit they had was a timeshare unit next to the ocean. Very nice, with a balcony looking out on the ocean. Just one thing to keep in mind: it seemed REALLY far away from everything. Walking to Red Hook was absolutely not doable. Not sure what your priorities are, but it sounded like walking/proximity was one of them. If so, you might want to reconsider Anchorage.
East Ender, Onik'a,
Good evening...
Where do you stay for 2 or 3 bedrooms, walking proximity to Red Hook and beach?
thanks, Craig
didn't mean that you could walk to beach(s) from the Anchorage, but that there was a beach (small) at the resort. we still are curious about the resort though! we will rent a car to get to places we need to get to.
Craig: That is a tough program...you COULD walk from Sapphire Village to Red Hook, but I am not sure of 2-3 bdrms...ditto Secret Harbour- they do have 2 bdrms...Both would be a walk you wouldn't want to do everyday.
Jim: Yes, there is a small beach at the Anchorage which blends in with the Yacht Club beach, then a rocky area and the Cowpet/Elysian beach....all on the same bay. With a car, it is great- a quick trip to Red Hook. Definitely have the ribs at Arthur's, yum! Cowpet Bay does have a lot of buildings on it, but it is convenient!
