Hi all,

Our first trip to St. John is April 24. We are so excited! My question is:

Has anybody stayed at Amorosa villa on Peter Bay? That's where we are staying and would appreciate any information. Also, boyfriend has quite a bit of experience with boats. Are we o.k. with renting without a captain or is the water from St. John to Tortola pretty rough?

Thanks all!

Not familiar with the villa, but just the fact that it's in Peter Bay leads me to believe that it's fantastic...that's a very high-end neighborhood...

Getting from STJ to Tortola by boat is a piece of cake. Now, finding a boat to rent without a captin...that's a little tougher...anyone have recommendations to suggest?

Thanks Marty,

We're not typically "high end" people so it will be nice to pretend for a week! 😎

Whew!! Had me going there for a minute! I thought perhaps that woman from 'The Apprentice' was coming to STJ. 😀

Enjoy your vaca. And don't forget to post a trip report and let us know how the other half lives!

YW...and as long as you're pretending...how about pretending you have a 39 year old child to help fulfill the "big family vacation" feeling??? I'm available!!!

That is scary!!! I promise I am much less frightening than that "Amorosa" - LOL

And Marty we'll adopt you - maybe you can tell me about living on the island because I have the feeling I'm staying unless they peel off the floor!

Marty,

I think you'll like our bunch - unless of course you are shy, hate the beach and don't like to have fun! 8-):@)

Hmmm...I think most that know me wouldn't use the word 'shy' to describe me! haha! And beach? You mean there're beaches here???
Jeez, I must be a stick in the mud!
(can you hear the sarcasm in my typing??? Haha!)

Love the kitchen in this brand new villa! Lucky lucky.

Best place for cocktails is the Beach Bar.

It really depends on what your idea of 'best' is...some like places like Woody's, some like beaches, some like little holes in the wall...what's the BEST place? I dunno...what say we compile a list of what everyone thinks is the 'best' with a little description so people can choose? As an alcoholic (been sober 542 days today), my vote would be...ANYWHERE THAT HAS ALCOHOL!!! Haha!

Good for you Marty! 😎 Any ideas of must do or must see is appreciated! It is so rainy and gloomy here in Nashville - 19 days til paradise!

I guess you're right, Marty. Sorry to be so presumptuous!

MY favorite place is the Beach Bar (in Cruz Bay) because I know the staff and owner, it is right on the beach, and they hire my band to play once in a while.

Majones: By the time you get down here, the seas should have calmed down a bit, so as far as the boat thing goes, just go with your gut on the captain. Ocean Runner will let you take a boat out with out a Captain, but I have heard of disaster stories of damage in the 5 figures, so beware of the risks involved. I definitely wouldn't drink and drive, but that's just me. My friend (and guitar player in my band) is a captain for them, so ask for him if you decide to go with one.

Thanks Matt! What is your friend at Ocean Runner's name?

Connie, it isn't just us. Three other couples who we have been long time friends with - we are all so excited! Leaving Thursday and I'll be sure to give a full report when we get back!

Anybody else have any hints for must do's for the St. John Virgins??

Has your group planned on any excursions? Day sails, trips to the BVI's, dingy rentals? www.calypsovi.com. Ask for Sheree and tell her Fran from Michigan referred you. They have it all!!! 🙂 Have a great time. I was there this past February and I can't wait to get back!
Have a great time and drink a painkiller for me. A few of those and you won't be shy anymore. lol
