They should just put this in the price of the ticket!
"American Airlines Inc. said Friday that it is raising its fees for checked luggage by $5 a bag each way for tickets bought Aug. 14 or afterward.
Its fee for the first checked bag goes from $15 to $20. The second checked bag, which now costs $25, will go to $30.
The changes apply to American, American Eagle and American Connection flights between U.S. airports, including territories such as Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
As before, elite members of its frequent-flier program can check up to two bags at no charge, as can passengers flying in first class or business class or who have purchased nondiscounted coach tickets."
Well there you go - fly naked and buy your clothes at your destination!
I'm going to check right now to see if my snorkel equipment fits in my carry-on...or maybe I just need a larger "handbag" 🙂
Your mask should fit in but leave the fins at home and rent them here - they take up a LOT of space!
We had planned to just rent fins on our last trip to STX but we were quoted $15 per day for each set.
I did not check any bags last time on American. I had my carry-on bag and a mesh bag that my snorkel/mask/flippers came in that I rested on top of the carry-on. I also brought a backpack as my personal item. They did not say anything.
speedr1023,
That is great that they didn't say anything, but what if they would have? What would you have done then? I have seen some airline personnel say nothing and then I have seen some be real sticklers and go strictly by the book! I have seen them make people check their bags instead of boarding because they were over-sized, had an additional shopping bag, etc. I just would hate to have that happen and I would have to check something that I hadn't intended on checking. But good for you, I wish I could travel without checking luggage, it has become such a hassle and now an additional charge. I think I will just start packing less........
🙂 Nancy
You are right Larry5747 (Nancy). Some airline personnel say nothing while others are sticklers for the rules. I still carry-on. But I do travel light. You really don't need much when you are going to the beach. Buy your sunscreen when you arrive, and be sure and use it!
I can get enough for four weeks into a carry on and my laptop bag - and still take the laptop. I have to hit the laundry in Red Hook a time or two but that's OK too. I haven't checked -or lost- a bag in years.
