I am going to St. John for the first time at the end of May and I was curious to see if anyone knew if american express is generally accepted down there.

No Problem with Amex at all. I would say the majority of places and have never run into any problems
We live on STJ and most of the places that we shop at etc do not accept American Express. When my sister-in-law visited that was her card of choice and most places (restaurants, boat excursions etc) did not take it, I'm sure it is accepted at some places but Visa/Mastercard are more widely accepted.

Well that's no good. I wasn't surprised that shops did not accept it however I am shocked to hear most restaurants do not.
We go to St John every year and most places have accepted AmEx. I remember that the Fish Trap does not but the grocery stores, shops, and other restaurants did. I would take also take my VISA but I never go anywhere without my AmEx.
