Does anyone know how strict the airlines (American/Eagle and USAir) are about carry-on luggage? I know you can bring back up to six bottles of rum etc., and one must be local. But the way I understand it, that will be your only allowed carry-on.
No you will be allowed another carry on.
Just so you know you can not bring back any 151 proof liquor. I think they put that in the planes fuel tank.
Also, a few times American made us take out one bottle from the liquor carry-on. They said that we could only have 5 bottles in there. Other times it hasn't been a problem.
Madness,
We flew AA our entire trip. Flew in to STT with my carry-on and laptop. We picked up one of the six-packs of liquor while on STT. When we left, I had my daughter carry my carry-on along with her purse. I carried my laptop and one of the six-packs of liquor. This was a first trip, so I wasn't sure what I needed to do with the six-pack after boarding. Asked the flight attendant and was just told to stow it overhead. No problem to Miami (MIA) or St. Louis (STL).

John Tee is correct. I have flown American many times and that is it; so, If you're female throw your handbag in one carryon. That allows for the (second carry on or ) six pack. The six pack is boxed up for you. We always stuff laundry around the bottles. Also twist all the caps right (righty tighty, lefty loosy). We had one leaky one once. The overhead smelled like a brewery. Opps, checked for breakage and it was a loose cap of all things.
Ours must have been packaged for travel. It was delivered to the hotel from Destiny Dazzlers and the bottles were snugly wedged in with extra pieces of cardboard. Never thought about checking caps!!! No boozery in our overhead compartment, thankfully. 😉

TSA regulations are that you can have one carry-on item and one personal item. they carry-on item is self-explanatory. the personal item is listed as such items as purse, computer, small backpack, briefcase, fanny pack, etc.
There is actually a clause in this rule that there are exceptions, one of those being "duty free items." Liquor in the USVI are duty free, therefore there is an exception in the rule about your carry-on limitations, allowing you to carry more then you normally would. However, this is TSA's regulations. Whether or not a specific air carrier will allow you to use that loop-hole is up to them.
Best of luck to you, and enjoy your travels!

You are allowed 5 bottles of liquor, and a 6th if it is made in the Virgin Islands (Cruzan).
