I was in St Thomas in 2002.

When we left after a week stay the airport security was long. Are they still
having you open every suitcase for them to go through. Or have they
installed x-ray machines like the main land.

Try to prepare my self.

Thanks

They have x ray machines. But be sure not to put any locks on your bag as they will just break them anyway like they do on the mainland. Opening of bags is at their discretion.

Thanks Patrick!

I travel a lot for work so I am aware of not putting locks on the bags. When I was there in 2002 they made everyone get in line and opened every single bag. They did this while you stood there.. I had never seen this before. I have seen them pull different people out of line but never open everyones bag. It took awhile

Just wanted to see what time frame I needed to give myself.

Thanks

I flew through there Sept 03. The longest wait getting out was because the ticket agent's computers where down for awhile and they had to write paper tickets. The security end of it's not bad at all.

Remember the airports in the VI are ports of entry into the US. In additiona to the normal security screenings the hand inspections are done as part of the US Customs check.

I can't speak for everyone, but the Customs Agent only held me for about 30-45 seconds. He asked questions that I should be able to answer quickly and I did. I won't go into what he asked due to security, but I breezed through. 🙂 It might have also helped that I was wearing my airport ID badge from my home airport job since I was flying ID90...heh.

Last Sunday I went throught STT after a week in st john- line for customs moved quickly. They are recommending 2.5 hours prior to departure. We were there about 2 prior, and still had over hour (closer to 1.5) to wait to board after we cleard

We flew out on a Sunday @ 4PM, airport was very busy; some cruise ship uses as final destinaition ? our flight down was empty- back packed! it was very quiet in St John- many places closed, but very relaxing!

Tip - if you are planning to buy liquor before you leave STT, and procastinated till the aiport to get it, make sure you do before you go through customs - no store inside airport, after clearing security...

Thanks BeachCat!

We are head to STT on Friday for 7 days. It is a long over due relaxing time. We where there year before last in the middle of October. Very quiet not many people. Just what we where looking for. So it's good here October is still quite time.
