We are planning on renting a car, but does it make sense to have the rental company bring it to Tamrind Reef instead of the airport and take a taxi from the airport to Tamarind Reef?
I'm just afraid we would get totally lost the first day trying to find our way to the hotel.

Are taxi's all around the airport?

If this is your first trip to St Croix, I suggest that you take a taxi to your hotel and have the car delivered later that day (or the next morning). If you are arriving late it is a very good idea. If you are arriving in the afternoon you should be able to get around by yourself, but a taxi can be very helpful.

My first arrival on St Croix was just after hurricane Hugo and street signs were all gone. We were glad to have the rental car company meet us at the airport and take us to our destination.

You will almost always find taxi's around the airport.

Hi Yvonne,

The drive from the airport to Tamarind for a first time visitor can be a challenge. It's a bit confusing at first to try to remember to stay on the left and stay on course. There aren't a lot of road changes but the route takes a few turns that can be a bit hard to follow with other roads merging, especially on Centerline Road toward Christiansted. Once you drive it a time or two it will seem simple. The roads are more visibly marked by numbers than names so take some time to study the handy pocket map you can get for free at the airport and try to learn the numbers.

Taxis are based at the airport near the luggage pickup area. One to Tamarind will probably cost less than a day's car rental but not much less depending on how many people and how much luggage you have with you.

You'll be surprised at how much driving you can do on St. Croix so take daily trips to different areas of the island. Each end of the island is different in some way and all are beautiful. When you go to town to shop, get there early for the best free parking. Paid parking is available in a couple of areas in Christiansted as well.

Thanks to all for the advise.

We are renting with Judi of St. Croix and they will bring our rental to Tamarind Reef so we're not going to attempt it.
