We will be arriving the middle of November and wonder which route to take from the airport to catch the car barge in Red Hook. We are somewhat familiar with the island, but would like a heads up if there is any construction (or anything else) we should avoid. Our flight arrives around 3:45 p.m. on a Friday. Thanks!!

Carolmo -
Your route to Red Hook should be pretty construction-free when you arrive, and Fridays have been low cruise ship days lately, so traffic should be down.
The route I take is the South route - downtown to Mandela Circle (at the Wendy's), right past Havensight area, wending your way thru Bovoni (the land fill), and taking a right at the stop sign "T" at the bridge-to-nowhere. Then it's just thru Red Hook, and CAREFULLY entering the farthest entrance at the docks (which ARE under construction) to the car ferry. Pick up a map at the airport.
Hope this helps.
