Hey, you guys can really help me out. I'm not coming for a few months, but have a place in Tortola booked, but my flight does not get into St. Thomas until 4:00. As I can see, the last ferry of the day will be out of Red Hook at 5:30. Do you think I could make that one, or possibly the Charlotte Amalie Ferry at 5:00 in time?? Thanks! Tom S.

Hello Tom,

Where did you see a 5:30 out of Red Hook to Tortola? (if you are refering to the 5:45 listed in the schedule on this site, then you missed the note right above the schedule that says it isn't running right now.)

The 5pm out of Charlotte Amalie sometimes runs at 4:30pm. You should call them and confirm exactly what time they are departing on the day you are traveling. If they are heading out at 5pm then yes you should be able to make it, if your plane is on time. Be sure to tell the taxis you need to get to the Tortola Ferry in CA to catch the last ferry, they typically wait for their vans to fill up with customers doing in a like direction, perhaps if they know you are on a tight time frame they might try to hustle. If for some reason you miss it, there is a Holiday Inn right accross the street.

Hello Islander... Thanks for the info. I saw the 5:30 listed on the virginislandsdailynews.com site, but it appears that if we can't make the 5:00 a night at the Holiday Inn will be just fine. I DO APPRECIATE the info!! Tom

Approach your taxi driver very graciously with a tip in hand and ask him if he might call the ferry to advise that you are on your way. I've seen the ferry held for late airport arrivals, based on a taxi driver's call-ahead.
