We will be visiting in a couple of weeks and leaving on a Saturday (AA flight to San Juan around 3:20). I was wondering how far in advance we need to be at the airport for security, etc. We don't want to leave any earlier than necessary? Thanks.

we took this same flite in december; took about 20 min AFTER check-in to clear security. obviously, time required for check-in depends on how many people are in line, but 30 min should do it easily. we had no wait because we arrived 2 hrs ahead of our flite time. and that may also have contributed to short wait time to clear security. 2 hrs total should do it.

Getting through security is a fairly stand thing for a small airport., but a good thing to do beforehand is fill out your declaration paperwork. It is mostly a questionaire regarding how much your are taking home, do you have your limit of 6 bottles of alcohol, etc. but I didn't have mine filled out ahead and made a few folks mad by having to stop and fill it out. I know you can get these at the airport but also at a few places around town have them.
