We will be visiting St.John. As our return flight leaves St Thomas at 7:20 AM., we plan to spend the night before at the St Thomas Holiday Inn.
What amount of time should I allow for airport activity? If I leave the Holiday Inn by taxi at 6:00, should arrive at ariport at 6:20. Is that enough time?
What airline are you flying on? If you're flying on American, I would suggest you show up 90 minutes beforehand just in case the lines are long. I have had bad experiences showing up 60 minutes before American Eagle flights from St. Croix when lines have been long. St. Thomas' airport is generally busier than St. Croix, so time is more crucial in your situation.
Check what time the airport opens in the morning on STT. No point in getting there before the airporty opens.
On STX the airport doesn't even open until 6 or 6:30 AM.

Getting there an hour before departure could be pushing the limits. A lot of "smaller" airports start boarding 20 minutes before flight and might stop boarding within 5 to 10 minutes prior. You still have to get your boarding passes, go through customs, go through security, and there's always a possibility of a random baggage search. The closer time to boarding can mean longer lines.
With a smaller airline like American Eagle it might not be that big of a problem, but with a larger airline (with more people) it could get messy. Like said above, I'd try to get there at least 90 minutes ahead just to be safe. 🙂
For the past 4 yrs. we have taken the 7:20 flite out of stt ON AMERICAN EAGLE and have gotten to airport at 6:00am. The airport does not open until 6:00 Being the first ones to leave that early you should just breeze thru. We have always had to sit and wait for at least 1/2 hr. before boarding
