hi does anyone know if you can bring canned goods on either your checked or carry on bag ?? like tuna or chicken breast with pop up tops?? any info would help. thanks. john.
Given the new hoopla about carryon stuff, I'd suspect that to be safe one should put it in the checked bag. But they probably do have such items in the groceries on both STT and STJ. I believe a friend did put tuna in her checked luggage in March but I'm not so sure that there are any gurantees anymore!
All such canned goods are available here. Which island are you visiting so we can tell you where to find them? Cheers!
I actually emailed TSA about this a few months back. The last time we went to St. John (2005) we had a whole carry-on of dry goods, including cans. I'm sure their response said that you can no longer carry on such items, but you can still pack them in your checked luggage. They just don't recommend it because canned goods will throw up a red flag during screening and your bag will be pulled to be checked by hand. But, I'd say if you're at the airport early enough to allow for the extra time of hand checking, you should be okay. We are planning on doing just this on our next trip - as long as they don't actually change the rules before we go.
