Hi,

Hoping to get some advice from people who might travel frequently out of Boston on American Airlines.

We will be heading back to St. John (obviously via St. Thomas) on Sat. April 21, 2007 and will be heading back to Boston on Sunday, April 30th.

Currentl, AA has a price of $464 plus 53.50 fee totalling $517.50 for a nonstop down. Leaving at 9:30AM arriving on STT at 1:24 and leaving STT on Sunday at 3:45PM, arriving in Boston at 9:50PM via a change of plane in San Juan. The times for all flights look really good.

A little history: For last years trip (at the same time of year) - I originally paid a total of $587.15 (533.65 + 53.50) per ticket when purchased in Sept - but, prices went down to a total per ticket of $479.50 (426 + 53.50) in Jan.. I was lucky enought to get a rep who rebooked us - with no change fee and gave us two travel vouchers at $107.65 each for future travel.

We can use those vouchers for the trip this coming April - but, the tickets need to be issued by Dec 31, 2006. So, I can't wait til January to see if the prices come down to the lowest I saw them last year.

So, to make a long story short. I don't know if I should take these tickets now for $517.50 per ticket, knowing that I will only be paying about $410 after using my voucher.

Don't know if there might be certain periods between now and Dec. 31st when American Airlines might routinely lower their prices.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! I have these tickets on hold and need to decide before 10 tonite whether or not to take them.

We don't travel that much & I have never purchased tickets this far out in advance.

Thank you all for any advice.

That would be returning Sunday - April 29th not April 30th.

Quite honestly, I don't think we are going to see major swings in airfare for the coming 12-24 months wherever you travel. If anything, we might see steady increases as airlines become bold enough to get back the higher cost of fuel.

If you haven't noticed, planes are running pretty full meaning supply is just covering demand and that leads to price strength. They don't feel they need to lower prices to fill the seats.

I suggest you do it now and don't cry over a few percentage points either way. You'll have the tickets and at a 'discount' given the voucher so that part of your trip is now taken care of and not a worry down the road.

Thanx, Chris.

I was leaning toward that conclusion & I appreciate the reply.

I will grab these now & keep my eyes open, just on the off chance that they go drastically down & I will see what they could do for me.

But, you are right - it would be nice to not have to obsess about this from now til the end of December when our vouchers need to be used toward a purchase.

Again, thank you for taking the time to reply!
