Hi,
I am going to St. John in June and I was wondering when I should book my airfare? I started to look around different websites and figured it was too early but then got worried that the price might go up... a lot. Any suggestions? I would also like to know what to do on my first day there. We love to snorkel and we will be there for ten days, minus two for travel, but there seems to be so many beautiful beaches, which one would be great on the first day?
Thanks,
Darlene

Hi Darlene!
It's definatley not too early. We went in June this year and bought airline tickets right before Katrina hit in late August of 2005 and were definately glad that we did. Airfare went up and up after that. We are going back in June again but haven't bought tickets yet only because we aren't sure of who all is going to be going with us. I've been watching airfare and it's been the same for about a month now.

As for what to do on the first day....the day we got there, we just got acquainted with the villa, prepared a nice dinner, watched the sunset and tried to get acclimated to island time. The day next moring, we went to Trunk Bay for our first beach day and snorkled the trailed. It worked out great for us.

Hi,
That sounds great! I am trying to hold off on airfare as well for the same reason. We are a group of six and we have to make sure that we are all going! Thanks! Do you think in Jan. they will get really expensive?

I hope not. That's probably when we'll be buying ours. One other thing I've been watching is the number of seats available. We'll be flying US Air and know which flights we want and I've been keeping a close watch on the seating situation. I don't want to end up waiting to where we can't all sit together either. The filght home seems to be more booked than the flight going down.

Just thought I'd mention to you, too.

We are headed to Jost and St. John in Feb. flying into St. Thomas. We knew we were going way back at the beginning of this year, we watched the airfare all summer and then as the fall rolled around things started creeping up. We finally booked about 2 weeks ago as things weren't getting cheaper and the flight availability was getting few and far between, we noticed plenty of return options but no a lot of options for getting to St. Thomas. I checked almost every search site (expedia, travelocity, cheapair, cheap tickets, etc as well as the airlines directly) and it finally came to booking now before it was too late. I imagine we'd find some cheaper flights right before however we'd be stuck with what was left for flight times. It's definately a gamble and depending on how tight your availability is for getting earlier or later flights you may luck out waiting but we didn't want to risk it. That's what I've found in booking our flights.
