I am wondering what is typical to pay for air fare in January to St. Thomas from the midwest? I am going in Jan. and prices from Detroit, MI are $700-800 right now!!! My travel agent says that fares will drop in the fall. What is a good price? Thanks!
Kadi:
Dont know about Detroit, but from Oklahoma going thru Atlanta on Delta or American going thru Dallas in January I usually see them down to about $600 since it is in season, out of season around $400. Airfare has been jumping up a little due to fuel prices that will surely be passed on to the consumer. Dont know what the final effect will be from that
From Texas, going thru Miami and then on to St. Thomas its been averaging 600-700, just until the past month when the fare has jumped to almost 90. I was able to get a $300 deduction by booking a package deal via a local travel agent. The cheapest ever was right after 9/11 when we paid $400.
If Toledo, OH isn't too far away, check www.tmair.com for a fare from Toledo to San Juan, and then book a separate ticket from San Juan to St. Thomas.
If you do transmeridian out of Toledo, You have to look exactly 6 mo prior. TMair posts travel dates from now to six months out. The best fares are when your booking 6 months in advance...
I fly out of Toledo and Detroit all the time. We just hooked 4 roundtrip airfares to Las Vegas in Oct-Nov for 760.00 on TMA
If you leave on the weekend United Air has a $345 Special - We book for mid Feb for non-stop Chicago-StJ for $345 round.
American airlines has about the same deal for $350 I think.
