Has anyone been to Agave lately? They have not changed their on line menu in 3 years and I'm curious if we should go on our future trip. Last time we went we were disappointed. Thanks.

Agrave Terrace is a must! I have never had such good service and the quality of the food was excellent. We've been there several times. The drinks and deserts are great too!

A major problem in the USVI is that chefs come and go while tthe owners remain constant.

Chefs come and go here as do bartenders and servers. The turnover is enormous!

Agave is typically and consistently up and down, has been thus for many many years as different chefs come and go and so it will go on. It certainly has the potential to be a major "hot spot" where high-end dining is concerned but despite its potential it too ofen apparently fails to live up to it's name where longevity is concerned. The view is awesome!

Cheers!

Hi sleeper18:

I use that because it is true. Especially on the message boards and forums. We sometimes forget that the only thing that makes us "experts" and the other person "ignorant" is the brief moment in which the other person is in discovery.

Just yesterday, I did not know something that I learned today. So, it helps me to remember to put myself in the place of the newbie, the ignorant, the one who just does not know.

Trust me, after the umpteenth inquiry about whether it might rain today, whether there is crime in the islands, and whether there will be bugs, one must bite one's tongue, with ketchup and onions, my friend, ketchup and onions...!

Hi A.Davis
I now understand completely, couldn't help but laugh several times. You are too cute. After reading this forum for a long time I feel a connection to all the ones with knowledge that keep us stateside folks updated and in touch with the islands. Excuse me while I re-read your cute post, you have a great sense of humor
Thanks again

Went to Agave Terrace in mid-February after a long day at the beach. Food was average at best. Wait staff was angry that we didn't want to order wine, appetizers, etc. We weren't treated very well.

Give Indigo a try instead. We had a spectacular meal there. Its not as fancy as Agave Terrace, but the food was great and the wait staff was much nicer.

A.Davis,
Loved reading your response as to why you use the quote, I laughed too!

Sleeper 18,
Yes, A.Davis is a sweety and has a wonderful sense of humor. A wonderful person to know!

As for Agave, I believe all restaurants have their ups and downs. It has always been known as a great place and I always recommend it!

Sherri,,I'll be at Point Pleasant at the end of June for a week and I plan on eating there. Future Islander has been a great source of information, I always read his post. I lived in St Thomas in the early 90's at Sapphire House and spent time at P.P. for the incrediable views. I'm renewing my vows, (for the love of the islands) that is. I was there when Sapphire Resort was the place to be especially on Sunday for the beach party. Of course before the failing resort that is there now.

Thanks sleeper18, and thanks to my friend Sherri!

A sense of humor helps in the islands. Sometimes I feel badly for people who come here on vacation and encounter inconveniences that we take as a regular part of life. But I'd have it wherever because that's the way I am!

A.Davis,
I am with you! I am like that also! I just take things in stride and always try to find the good! I once had a girlfriend down for a visit, looooong time ago. She conplained about everything!!!! Even WAPA going out! I kinda like it when the power goes out, how fun to get out the candles and have a conversation with whomever is around or even by yourself! 🙂

Patience is a virtue!

Agave Terrace is our favorite restaurant on St Thomas. We have enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner there for the last 3 years and we've always have a great dinner ( we've ordered off the regular menu, not the holiday menu). The food is excellent, the service is attentive and the views are spectacular!

Is Desmond still there as the bartender? We used to go for drinks just to sit at the bar and enjoy the view as well as Desmond. He's great. We will be there in June and would love to repeat our tradition, but only if Desmond is still there. Anyone know??? Thanks

We were there last June. It's good -- but not excellent. Try Romano's -- there are about 10-12 tables in the restaurant -- the food is superb as is the service. It's top of the line -- the chef is also an artist (and has cooked for many celebrities). It's really fine dining in St. Thomas. It opens at 6 pm and is close to Coki Beach in Red Hook. I've been to all of the good restaurants, and nothing tops Romano's.

Agave Terrace is our favorite restaurant , anywhere!!! We will have Thanksgiving dinner there in November, as we have done for the past 3 years ( we order off the regular menu, not the holiday menu). We have always found their food to be excellent, the wait staff and bartenders to be very attentive, and the view spectacular.
