I am stumped, but need to make a decison. Looking to my fellow VI lovers for HONEST opinions about what YOU would do.

Y'all know I like to go down to the VI in February and in the summer. Feb trip is normally 1 wk and summer is 2.

Last Feb, trip was lovely and action packed- but did seem a little short (6 nts). I found myself counting down each day. In Feb, I travel w/my young daughter, but we have a few good friends on STT. She misses a few days of school, no biggies since I schedule around President's Day.

This year, we've been invited to stay in a friend's home.....free of charge. Kind of housesitting. So, no money spend of accomodations. We only pay for airfare.

I have already booked air...for 7 nights. Anything otherwise was mucho expensive or didn't work out with times, etc.

I have recently checked airfare and found that I can add 2 more nights to my stay for the SAME airfare price....but I have to pay $100 change fee per ticket. Again, accomodations are free and flexible...so no extra charge there.

And, the extra days are days that my daughter has off from school...so no more school lost and virtually no more work lost for me.

So, the ONLY downside to changing is the $100 change fee ter ticket - at 2 tickets. Tickets were $389 - plus tax, each.

Would you do it for 2 more nights? Please weight in. I have been mulling this over for 2 nights and cannot decide. I am afraid that the fare will soon increase - so I need to make a decision.

Also, if I change, we will get a non-stop both ways....going and on the return. Right now, I only have a non-stop on the departure, but a layover on the return.

What would YOU do? Concensus will decide!

Thanks all!

Thanks PSWLRW. Appreciate your feedback.

When reading my post, I kind of feel like I led it down this path. Gheesh, makes it sound so obvious. But, the extra $200 for JUST changing the airfare was making me feel less than happy about it. Plus, I've rented my car on hotwide and will need to add a la cart days and take the car back twice during my stay (a downside of Hotwire).

Thanks for saying it is a no brainer. It may seem like one...but I have honestly been mixed in my feelings on it. I guess I could cut out 2 fancy dinners and get the $200 back. Yes, I DO think like that!! 🙂

Go for it! As I recall from your previous posts you like to cook, so cook a couple more meals and save there too!

It seems obvious to me. You could save 200. on island without trying too hard...... Don't shop as much, eat PB&J if you have to, drink your cocktails at home and not in the restaurants. When it's time to pack to come home, you are going to kick yourself for not taking those last 2 days.

It would be worth it to stay the extra days and pay the $200. I never get enough time on island. Go for it1 Aren't you lucky to be able to stay "rent" free! I think the airlines are way out when they charge such an exorbitant fee for changing your flights but it seems like a no brainer in order to stay a couple of days more. Go and Enjoy!

I think it is an incredibly financially irresponsible thing for you to do. Do you know how many children in Africa could be fed with that $200? It's bad enough that you are taking your daughter out of school. I hope she doesn't have the lack of respect for her education that you do.

And if you took ANYTHING I said above seriously, then you really DO need the extra two days!

Hell, I'd spend the extra $200 just for the non-stop flights.

Do it. Do it. Do it. 🙂

Go for it Blu it's time you can't get back with your daughter. She won't remember that you saved a little money. But she will always remember the time you 2 shared together.

We've done the 5 or 6 night stay for 3 years. This year we're doing the 8 night stay. Blu - STAY the extra nights - especially with your fee accomodations! In fact, let me know and the wife and I will go down with you next year!

Good Luck - Have Fun!

There's no choice here Blu...when you have a chance to stay an extra 2 night, go for it.

If not, you'll be sorry you didn't.

Holy Sh*t Blu! I can't believe you're taking 2 days to think about this! Geeesh I wish we had that same deal!

Its like saying "its 4th and inches, we're down by 5 with a minute to go" should we go for it????? Hello?! definitely a no-brainer!

and that's 2 more days to add to your trip report for US!

We were faced with the same decision last year in Feb. The rates dropped some friends already had a villa rented prior to our charter and let us stay with them for free. It took about ten seconds to get the flight changed.

Absolutely stay the extra two nights. We just extended our 10 day by 1 day and it cost an additional 700.00,so I say go for it. I wouldn't give it another thought. We really hated to leave as always and almost always feel like there is never a long enough vacation. What does your daughter say?

I say two more days in paradise. You can't take the money with you when you leave this earth but you can take lasting memories of incredible times spent with loved ones! Go for it!

I have 5 more days til we hit the white sandy beaches of the virgin islands and I wouldn't think twice about adding more days.

Enjoy!

Look at it this way, you get to spend 48 extra hours in Paradise at an added cost of $4.16 per hour.
Break it down to the ridiculous and it looks like a no brainer.

Blue:

Are you really serious? Two extra days for essential $100 per night? Life is short, go for it!
