Hi everyone,

My husband, 14 year-old stepson and I are planning our first trip to the USVI next month and I'm trying to find a place to stay. I would like to stay at an all-inclusive, and I'm wondering if anyone has any advice on Bongolo Bay? I went to trip advisor and there are mixed reviews. I'm wondering if any locals out there can give me the scoop.
I personally would love to stay at the Caneel Bay Resort, but I think that would be better for just my husband and I!
Thanks for looking!!!

It's Bolongo! LOL That's what I call it too but I know better. Had some guests that called it that and I thought it was so funny. Bolongo has some nice restaurants and people running it that have been in the business here for many years. There is a lot of sand but the beach may have some rocky areas. I know they have been upgrading the rooms as well.

nander: AI isn't a big thing here and very few places offer it because there is so much to do and see outside the confines of any resort. If you really are debating Caneel versus Bolongo then it's a total no-brainer - Caneel!

Have you thought about renting a condo? I'd suggest looking on www.vrbo.com for available units at Sapphire/Crystal Cove and also look into Secret Harbour. The two beaches are pristine and the advantage to a condo is that they have kitchens and you can make your own breakfasts, lunches and even some dinners if you don't feel like going out. Rent a car and the whole island will be at your foot-tips!

Just a suggestion. Cheers!

The units themselves are run down. There has been little care in upgrading the property. Iggies restaurant can be fun on the right night. I agree with STT Resident you really need to get out and explore STT.

If Caneel is in your price range and you really *must* have an AI, you might consider Frenchman's Reef. They have an AI plan, lots of activities, entertainment, spa, room service, etc

Bongolo/Bolongo (LOL) is an older style Caribbean hotel- low rise and low key. It is a family run establishment, not a Marriott. We enjoy Iggie's and whenever we are there, the guests seem to be having a great time. In this very expensive world, IMHO, Bolongo is a great value.

The Elysian is pretty nice but I don't think they do all inclusive. It's near the Ritz.

Hi nander,

My hubs and I stayed at a condo right next to Bolongo last year and I would not recommend that area or beach at all.

I'd look around the Red Hook area where there's plenty of resaurants, shopping, beautiful beaches and the ferry to other islands if you so choose.

We were not impressed with the views at Bolongo and that part of the island is pretty far off from "anywhere".

I don't have any experience with the AI so can't recommend any. How 'bout the Wyndham @ Sugar Bay??

Secret Harbor is nice and pretty but not an AI. Maybe rent a vehicle for a day and see how you do. It is very doable and if you relax with it, then I'd keep it for longer. The island has many sites to see as well as a day trip over to STJ!!

We just got back from a week on STT, stayed at a condo at Mahogany Run-the views out to Hans Lolick, Jost, Tortola and STJ were awesome!! We've also stayed out on Cabrita Point. We enjoy this part of STT and like being close to the ferries. My advice is to stay at the North or East side of STT...the views are well worth it8-)

Good luck!

Kathy
