Confession time. I can't stop reading this message board while I'm supposed to be working here in land-locked St. Louis. I also can't stop looking for good deals (on cheapcaribbean.com, expedia and cheaptickets.com) to get back to the USVI. I was just there last month! I am trying to find a last minute deal to get there for Memorial Day. Before that, I was there only 1 year prior to that. My husband and I always have our "one-too-many-glasses-of-wine" conversations that we should move to the USVI. Now those conversations are creeping into our "sober" life. The only issue is that I hear the school systems aren't the best in the world and the private schools have a waiting list. Our children are 7 and 8. I also need a recipe for a bushwacker. STL can't get it right!

So that leaves me pining nostalgic....waiting (and shopping) for the next vacation, looking at my screen-saver pic from the clear, turquoise waters around Virgin Gorda, obsessively reading this message board to magically transport my mind to a better place.

I think I need help!

I know how you feel, I am also at work pineing for STT, but, I'll be there in 2 weeks! Unfortunately this will be my last trip there for a few years since we're still trying to pay off our last two 🙁

Here is the bushwacker recipe straight from the guys at Coki Beach, nobody else makes it the same:

Mix equal parts of the following:

kahluah
irish cream
rum
vodka
cream de cacao
cream of coconut

top w/ ground nutmeg

mmmm.... delicious!

There are many more addicts desperately searching/dreaming for a way to 'make the move' than you realize. Fortunately, very few of us will make the move. If we all went, I am afraid we would ruin paradise.

So true. I guess we'll all just do our part to support the tourism industry!

Thanks for the reality check......and for the Bushwacker recipe, too!

Wow...it sounds like you are real hooked...just like the rest of us!!
Here is a recipe I got for a pitcher of Painkiller's....
1 can Pineapple juice
1 small can CoCo Lopez
1/2 bottle Midori
1/2 bottle Dark Cruzan Rum
1 ripe banana
Blend well & top with grated nutmeg.

Whenever I get the blues for the islands..I'll whip up a batch of this & go thru all my pictures & video's. Works for a bit!

I know the feeling! 23 days and counting, until the white sands of St. John are under my feet!! Every time I think of it I get all crazy. The problem is that I have been thinking about it everyday since last August when I came home from there. Thanks to everybody on the boards for making it a little easier to wait, with your pictures and trip stories.
Won't be long now!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm glad I'm not alone, haven't counted the days till Nov 5th but the pile of papers on my dining room table about new places we havenit seen in the last 5 years since we went to STJ last is growing! We ARE going to actively explore living there by trying to volunteer as workers in the Maho Bay Resorts work program- you work PT for a month and get to live at one of the resorts either cheap or free. We think that a month in Paradise may sway us one way or another. There are always the concerns about decent medical care as you get older so how paradise-like it would be if you're elderly and sick is a big question mark. Also, can we future paradise-livers live without our kids around? Hmmmmm, we shall see maybe!

Unforseen illness aside, rumor has it your health improves depeneding upon surroundings and stress levels. Considering STJ, both of these are on the plus side.

As far as family, I think they would opt to visit you more 🙂

Could be, but I work in the med field and do worry a little about really elderly year stuff. I think the kids, who've been twice themselves would come down, assuming they can afford the plane fare! Anyway- 157 days till next visit to STJ, I just counted! Hey Chris, if I do decide to come down and stay, do you hire experienced assistant chefs, complete with their own chef coats and experience prepping and plating for high end events, and with courses under her belt from J&W? (just keeping my options open, hahha!)

If your serious about the culinary profession, contact Chris Cody at Chloe & Bernards. People are always confusing me for him.

Enjoy your trip.

Mike, its easy, just find the Maho Bay Ecoresort main page, I don't have it bookmarked but google shouldn't take long and somewhere in their info on all their resorts on STJ they mention the work program. It used to be, and I think it still is- you apply, and if chosen, you work, usually during the summer, for a month, stay on the property in one of the tents, and get a cut rate on the meals. I believe you committ to something like 20 hours a week or so for a month, maybe longer, not sure? I think its a terrific way to get a good feel for island life with its pros and cons before making a major leap. We met many older, newly retired people in great shape who were doing this at the Maho Bay camps but I know they have it on the other side too at Concordia. Supposed to be lots of applicants for few open slots but it probably all depends on what your skill set is. I think I read that tney like couples so they get two volunteers who will automatically share a tent. Good luck but don't take my job when I apply in 3-4 years!

I am officially not just addicted but also a sick degenerate. I just booked a last minute trip to STT at Wyndham Sugar Bay for our family. Leaving St. Louis Thursday 5/26 and returning Tuesday 5/31. Anyone else going to be there during that time?

I am so excited to be back the the USVI!! And my kids (7&8) have never been out of the country. Spending way too much, but that's why we work......to PLAY!
