Just a question in general about purchasing airline tickets -
when purchasing thru websites such as expedia, cheaptickets, etc, can you pick the seat you want, like you can when booking thru Delta.com (or any airline's website)??

I have booked thru Delta.com and also thru expedia, but when I booked thru expedia, I called them and talked to person - which I like better. At that time we were given the seat assignments.

The reason I'm asking is if I book a girls trip thru cheaptickets.com, how will I know that we'll sit together? Since they asked for credit card info first, I was afraid that I wouldn't later be asked to pick our seats.

any help?

I have purchased on such sites & then called the airline to book the seats.

MG,
I've always booked directly thru the airline, first I'll check the travel sites...Travelocity, Expedia et. then I go to whichever airline had the best price, you'll save $20-30. Once you book your flight then you can pick seat assignments.

thanks, to both. Cheaptickets gave an excellent price on tickets, but it was different airlines going and coming. I thought if I were to go thru the airline directly, I wouldn't get as good a price booking one-way tickets but that's not true. I can book delta one-way and AA one way, and get a great price on each. whoda thunk?

Yep, for some reason it works better that way. I guess the airlines just want to fill an empty seat no matter what. The way gas prices are going up, who knows?

I don't know about the rest of you guys, but in my experience selecting seats in advance does not work out all the time. I have had about a 50/50 track record on getting the seats that I booked. As often as not, I have been given whatever the airlines felt like giving me. If you complain enough at the check in counter, you will get something half decent.... Good Luck...

Mountaineer Girl,
I gues you have the bug now? I found a cool web site www.kayak.com it will search all of the airline sites as well as travelcoity, expedia, etc etc. You can even set it up to check daily and email you when the prices drop.

thanks, Jay, Kayak is what I've been using. and then I go to the airline's website that has the cheapest rates. Its just that sometimes the cheapest rates are using 2 different airlines.

yes I have the bug, but this trip I'm planning (with us girls) is actually to Aruba. Hubby and I are coming back down to the VI's in 2008 or 09 (hopefully not that far away) but I think we may go to Tortola, maybe spend a night on Jost.

How's it going with the moving? do you have a job lined up for yourself? I'm reeeeeealy jealous!

Deb was on the phone again for an hour this week. It looks like the formal offer will be in August with a fall start date for a job she applied for at thanksgiving last year, island time. I will most likely just open my own business like I have now. We just had a huge yard sale and then donated a ton of stuff to Goodwill. Keeping the fingers crossed. I am probably going to put the boat that we have up for sale in the next couple of weeks so this better come through since I have owned a boat most of my adult life and not having one will drive me crazy.

Well I wish you luck in your endeavors! Would be awfully nice to re-invent yourself and take off for the islands. I think I want to run a beach bar on Jost when I grow up! 🙂

If (no WHEN) we come back down, maybe you can captain a boat for us for a day! that would be cool, us west virginians getting together for a sail.

keep us posted.

M.G.:

Good news for you!

We were at Sidney's on Jost last month......Sidney told me that he wants to sell his place......he only wants $7M......but I'm sure that's negotiable.......

Here's your chance.
