We're staying at the Frenchman's Reef and Morning Star Marriott Resort and I am wondering what some fun activities are in this area? Also, if there are any special sites or hangouts for visitors around the resort?

Hello Kim,

Frenchman's Reef and Morning Star are sort of out on a point... you pass through a residential area to get to them; nice, quiet area and rather private. The resorts have lots to offer you; the beach and beach toys, bars, restaurants, several pools, tennis courts, gym/spa, shopping... You will have to drive to other beaches, restaurants and sites around the island. If you are not renting a car take advantage of the Charlotte Amalie-shopping ferry Frenchmans offers - it takes you from the hotel into town via a small ferry.

Have a great time. What sorts of visitor attractions and sites were you interested in - water activites, island hopping, shopping, historical sites???

Thank you for the tips and the information.

When we are down there it would be great to check-out the island. How would you suggest going about that? Are we able to rent bikes and bike ride around the island during the day or would that not be too safe?

As far as other activities go, what water adventures are fun and worth doing? Visiting other smaller islands sounds interesting and maybe do some fishing?

I read in another thread that Cinnimon Bay was a great beach to visit...not crowded and good snorkeling, is it? and which island is it on?

Oh, we are not planning on renting a car while down there so we will most likely take advantage of the ferry.

Cheers!

Kim

The hills are very step, the roads are narrow with no shoulders, people drive on the left with left hand drive cars so driver's sight lines are bad around curves. To make bike riding even more dangerous you have lots of tourists driving around not being used to driving on the left hand side looking for non exsistent road signs and not watching for bikes on the road.

The non tourists taxi drivers drive wide Safari buses and 15 passenger vans both of which which are wide enough to force you off the road.

There are other hazards also, but I hope you get the picture.

Rent a car! I ride my bike 7,000 miles a year but not on STT or STJ.

Hello Kim,

To visit the island while not renting a car - you will have to take taxis and take island tours via taxi. You can not ride a bike here to tour the island, its way to hilly and the roads are not friendly to two wheeled modes of transport.

Water sports you might enjoy - a day sail, snorkeling, diving, parasailing.

As for visiting other islands- you might take the St. John Ferry over to St. John - that is where Cinnamon Bay is. Learn more about St. John on this site. Go all the way to the top of this page and you will see a St. John link. Yes its a lovely beach with good snorkeling.

Have a great time.
