This will be my 8th trip to St Thomas and St John. Are there any new restaurants or cool places, bars etc since 2008? We arrive on Monday the 7th and stay for 6 days.

There is a bunch of new stuff on St. John. The most obvious thing is the new roundabout in the middle of town. It's almost completed and fully functional. Traffic flow is much better now. In Cruz Bay, some of the newer restaurants are:

The Dog House @ Crazy Cracker's (this is where Lizard's Landing-Duffy's-The Backyard all used to be)

The Love City Cantina in Wharfside Village (used to be Surly Cantina and Paradise Cafe)

Cactus on the Blue (used to be Stone Terrace)

Waterfront Bistro, Wharfside Village (old Panini Beach spot)

La Plancha del Mar, Marketplace 2nd level (used to be China Shack)

Lucky Pagoda, the Lumberyard (used to be Polli's Mexican)

The G Spot (at Larry's Landing, which is now next to the Catholic church)

Cruz Bay Prime at the Westin (used to be Chloe and Bearnard's)

There is also a casino, The Parrot Club, in the center of Wharfside Village. They took the spot where Larry's Landing, the Art Gallery, and one other little spot used to be. Larry's Landing took the building across from Wharfside between Slimman's Parking and the Catholic church (it's painted bright yellow). Some new shops, a few new buildings, a new resort, Pond Bay, that is half completed in Chocolate Hole. There always seem to be changes happening! Have a safe trip and a fantastic vacation!

Julie: I am sorry, but PLEASE don't give people the idea that the sleazy video-lottery terminal operations are legitimate casinos. I know they are trying hard to blur the truth about this tax on the math-challenged, but VLTs have nothing to do with the regulated casino industry. And anything on St Thomas and St John that looks like casino is actually VLT. St Croix has one legal casino.

Is there anything in the old Tage spot?

Can't speak to much on SST, other than I think there is a couple new speed bumps on way to airport that were not there last year, on STJ we counted several new donkeys in Coral Bay and several new goats. Progress comes slow here.

"There is also a video gambling place, The Parrot Club, in the center of Wharfside Village."
Is that better? My ignorance is showing, don't know much about gambling, casinos, etc. 🙂

Hinds is in the old Tage spot. It has been there for quite awhile, 2 years or so. Walter Hinds is the owner, he was the old chef at the Stone Terrace. I haven't heard much about Hinds lately, good or bad. When he first started his prices were really high. I know he adjusted his menu to bring the prices down. I'd like to try it, but I just don't have the funds now a days.

Okay, we went to Hinds when it first opened, but hadn't heard anything, so assumed it folded. Boy, do I miss old Tage...

And I am sorry about the VLT rant, but it is just my little pet peeve. That and PWC/jet skis in my neck of the woods. :X

That's ok 😀 we all have our pet peeves! I probably have too many...but sunburned kids and people walking around town in bathing suits are near the top.

I am actually a little surprised that Hinds is hanging in there. You just don't hear much of anything, good or bad, about the place. I've never seen it busy there either. I do know that quite a few transplant locals like to go there and hang out at the bar for drinks and apps.

I miss Tage REALLY bad. That is my all time favorite restaurant. I am a huge fan of Ted Robinson and I would love to see him in a restaurant setting. He does catering right now, and the prices are pretty good, but I can't seem to justify having him come to my house and cook for me. Here is the link to his site, http://www.tedssupperclub.com/Teds_Supper_Club/welcome.html

We also saw a lot more animails this time in Coral Bay area. Lots of donkeys, goats, chickens, a pig and 1 big bull. Just out wondering around.

Well I guess if they were 'wondering' it was 'where am I ?'
Hinds is excellent and a treat in the VI -- food and service are top quality.
