This has probably been discussed here before. Apologize, if I am repeating a topic. Looking at air schedules, the only flight out from STT seems to be at 8:15 or 8:20 AM. Since the first ferry from Cruz Bay leaves around 6 AM, this seems to be really pushing it to get to the airport in time for the flight -- clearly does not allow for 2 hours prior to departure.
Do others run into this situation? What do you do? I know a lot of hotels on STT require 2 nights stay and I don't want to waste 2 nights on STT. Love STJ, not so much STT.
I know that I can drop my car off -- already checked and that is not an issue.

You're right. This has been discussed lots of times. The answer is there's no way you can make it if you take the 6AM ferry. Your only options are
1) to hire a private water taxi (leaving STJ at ~5:30AM) met in STT by a private taxi to the airport OR
2) stay on STT you last night. There are lots of places that will let your rent one night only ( Emerald Beach by the airport or Crystal Palace in town or two who will).
I hate American for doing this schedule change.
Sorry that is happening to you. We are flying Delta and leaving STT in the afternoon.
No way you will make it!
Get a room by the airport and then take the flight in the morning!

US Air leaves in the afternoon every day, so does Delta.
Westin's Ferry operates 24/7. I think it's about $110. You may want to call them and see if you can swing by from wherever you're staying (hopefully close to Westin) to Westin's dock and then the ferry over to Red Hook.
