Hi everyone,
I'm hoping to catch a 7:55am flight on American from St. Thomas to Miami, but spend the previous night in St. John.

Assuming I catch the 6am ferry from St. John and arrive in Red Hook by 6:20am and have a car waiting, do you think I can make this flight? I will not be checking luggage and have my boarding pass already from checking in online, so I can go right to security.

I know that sometimes the St. Thomas airport security and immigration can be quick, and sometime the line is out the door.

Thanks for the advice/opinions!

I wouldn't risk it, but I am a very caution person.

I drop guests off at the airport at about 5:45 and there are lines. They ask for twoo hours begfor the filght to be safe. I dropped a girl off once at 7 ad they refused her. It's the chnce you take if you're willing.

I wouldn't do it, even if the 6am ferry were guaranteed to be on time, which it's not.

If you only have carry on and have a pre printed boarding pass I'd do it.. I've done it...

You might make it, you might not. If you don't.......More stress than I'd want to put on myself. Too many things can go wrong. I'd spend the night on STT or schedule a later flight and have a stress-free trip.

Thanks everyone! The consensus sounds like it is a little too tight.

I'm a risk taker, but I would be sending my friend off on this flight and catching a later one myself, and she is less so. Clearly this won't work. The thing is that we will be now there finalizing her destination wedding and she wants to get back on July 4th in time to spending the evening with her fiance.

Let me toss this out--if we're staying at the Westin, any chance their ferry would be going over earlier?

Thanks all!

You could call one of the private water taxi services and ask if they are able to assist you.

Your best bet is to contact the Westin directly and ask them. Water taxi is likely to be very expensive unless you have a large party. Or you could contact Ron and see if he can put you up at Crystal Palace overnight. Cheers!

I work at the Galleon House B&B about 3 miles from the airport. We have people stay with us all the time who come in from St. John the night before they leave. If you do what you're suggesting, you're not likely to get to the airport until at least 7am (barring traffic jams - and yes we DO have them!), and are taking a big risk. I wouldn't recommend it unless you're willing to take the risk of staying another day if you miss your flight. (Not always a bad plan!). My question for you is, did you already pay for a room on St. John for your last night? If not, you're just going to be stressed the whole the night before anyway. Better off being here in Charlotte Amalie and relaxing your last night on the islands. In any case, good luck!
