Hello Everyone,
We will be arriving in St. Thomas July 4th and depart the 10th, staying at Secret Harbour. Is this a busy week and what kind of festivities are offered on the island for 4th of July?. This will be our first time in St. Thomas. We are in our 30's and just wondering what the age range is at Secret Harbour. How far is Redhook, can we walk there from the hotel?
Thanks for your help

Hello New Yorker,
The Carnival Parade and Fireworks for St. John are usually on July 4th but this year are taking place on July 5th so you can catch those events. You can take the passenger ferry from Red Hook to St. John on the 5th and watch the parade in Cruz Bay.
Red Hook is not far, its walkable; there are no sidewalks though so you would be walking on the road so should do so with care and only during the day. At night take a taxi.

Hey newyorker,
My wife and I will be there from the 1st to the 6th of July.
We are from Manhattan and this is our first trip. As a matter of fact, it's our honeymoon, since we got married May 17th of last year in Central Park and never got to go on a honeymoon. Since we both love the Fourth, we are hoping to sip cocktails while watching fireworks in beautiful St. Thommy, on the beach, baby! (you can tell I'm excited).
Can't wait.
Perhaps we'll keep in touch.
John
Hello John,
You might head to St. John on the 5th to see the parade and for a better view of the fireworks stay on St. John and have dinner and then watch them from Cruz Bay. There is a regular ferry between the two islands. Or be sure to be on the east end of St. Thomas facing St. John/Cruz Bay so you can see the fireworks.

We were on St. Thomas for our honeymoon years ago and it was July 4th so we got to sit at Sapphire, have few drinks, makes some new friends and watch the fireworks on St. John. It was a wonderful time and we've gone back every year since. This year we'll be there for the festivities again.
Hi All-
My wife and I are also coming down on 4th of July week. We’re in our mid-30’s first time on the island from outside of Boston. Just looking for the best keep secrets of the island.
Please do share your wise knowledge of St. Thomas, lol!
St John's Carnival Parade with fireworks later that night will take place on July 4. Most of the action for that week will take place on St John, though many boat operators on St Thomas will be offering fireworks sailings with drinks, snacks, and viewing for a flat fee.
There are not a lot of charter operations that are licensed to operate after sunset - it must be specified on your Certificate of Inspection and the equipment needed to satisfy CFR 46 for night sailing must be approved by the USCG.
Please be careful when choosing a vessel and operator since you will be crossing Pillsbury Sound back to STT well after 10 pm, especially if alcoholic beverages are being served aboard.
Thanks, exit zero. I saw a post advertising an outing, and I know they do sunset sails. I seem to remember seeing ads in Red Hook closer to the holiday, but can't remember who it was.

That particular stretch of road from Ritz Carlton/Secret Harbor to Red Hook is extremely narrow and has no sidewalk.
It is very dangerous to walk it, even in daytime due to the speeding traffic and oversized taxi's.
Do yourself a favor, be safe and take a cab.
You'll be glad you did.

Cool events happening on Monday July 4,2016 in St. John.
Nothing especially in St Thomas, except at possible local restaurants.
Don't walk from Secret Harbor into Red Hook.
It's a walkable distance but there are no sidewalks, lots of traffic and it's simply not safe to do, even during the day.
