Some time back a poster asked about shore diving sites...Well, the current issue of Rodale's just listed USVI #2 (just behind Bonaire) for World's Best Shore Diving.
Here are the sites:
...head for St. Croix...The most popular shore dive on the island is Cane Bay Drop-Off which is accessed from the picturesque and uncrowded beach at Cane Bay. Swim out 100 yards or so over the shallow inner reef to find spur and groove formations at 40ft, leading to the wall, which drops well below rec. limits.
They also mention Northstar Wall, a mile west of Cane Bay, which features a number of abandoned anchors, and a cavern filled with silversides (60ft), and "frequent visits" from turtles.
In Frederiksted, go to the piling of Frederiksted Pier--inhabited by macro species-incl.- arrow crabs, bittle stars, coral shrimp and featherduster worms
If anyone is going to Beneath the Sea, I know several dive operators from the VI are in attendance this year.
Thanks for sharing this info. 🙂
