So, I'm trying to plan my trip to get the most out of my 4 days. I was hopeing I could get some direction from the frequent visitors (since this is my first time on the island). I'm staying at Sapphire, arriving Friday, Aug 19 at noon. I originally wanted to take the Sky Ride that night, but it is not open on that day. How would you spend your first day on the island? Thinking of checking in, then taking the ferry over to St. John (but don't know what to do in such a short time). On Saturday we're going to Coral World for the Sea Trekk. What are "must do's" on the island??? I'm just looking for some guidance.
Many thanks,
bibi
Hi bibi-
What time do you arrive on Fri and what day/time do you depart? Will you rent a car? Are you a nightlife person or early to bed?
I arrive Friday, Aug. 19 at 12:01pm and leave Monday, Aug. 22 at 1:08pm. I have intentions on renting a car (you replied to my question about renting from the airport to Sapphire - thank you), I just wasn't sure if I'd keep it the entire length of my trip. I have never driven on the left side, but I trust that I'm very capable.
I do not plan on going to bed early since I only have 4 days! I do enjoy nightlife, so any tips, suggestions you may have would be greatly appreciated. It will be 3 girls (ages 25-29). So far on my "to-do" list I have, Magens Bay (visiting Drake's seat on the way), Paradise Point, eating at Cuzzin's & Virgilio's restaurant, possibly a 1/2 day trip to St. John straight to Trunk Bay. I'm just not sure in what order! Would you suggest canceling my Sea Trekk at Coral World to fit in something more worth while? Do you think I'm trying to do too much???
One late night should definitely be Duffy's Love Shack in Red Hook! It doesn't get hopping until 9-10 pm - - fun rum drinks - - great music.
You should definitely take the ferry to St. John (only 20 min) - - Trunk Bay is beautiful (of course), Woody's is a fun place to hang out, great shopping at Mongoose Junction. You can do all that in an afternoon/night. The last ferry back to STT is (I think) 9:00 pm.
I'm sure others will chime in with suggestions, too....
Well, here's how all my great plans on island work......
Get up in the morning, bring a cup of coffee to the terrace and sit there a while gazing at the wakening morning, watching the sea, the pelicans, the cruise ships coming in, the morning beach joggers. I think about all I want to do that day. Shopping, ferry to St. John and its beaches, beach hop on St. Thomas, Coral World, etc., etc. I finish my cup of coffee, get ready for the day, but first a morning dip in that beautiful sea. Get myself down to the beach, find my favorite chair and dive into that fantastic water. That's it. All further plans are on hold. Inevitibly it becomes a beach day right there. There's always tomorrow for the plans.
OK, I'm there for more than four days.
I just want to suggest that you are on a beautiful beach right there at Sapphire. You just might want to take one day to completely relax your soul.
Gerie
This would be my plan if I were your age (I'm not THAT much older, but 10 years makes a difference)....
-Arrive, rent car, head to Sapphire, but drive right past Sapphire and go to Marina Market in Red Hook - 2 minutes form Sapphire- for supplies to get me through the night and breakfast in the AM (rum, chaser, some kind of appetizing snack to have with drinks before dinner, breakfast things)
-back to Sapphire
-Drop bags in room, change to swimsuit and head to Sapphire's Pool Grill for lunch/drinks
-Begin Decompression
-More drinks, etc, etc, etc
-walk onto beach, grab chair, swim
-lounge on beach til dusk
-back to room, shower, throw on sarong and mix sunset cocktails and have appetizers from Marina market (they have a nice baked Brie in a bread thingy - would serve 3) - sit on deck
-change for Duffys (Duffy's big night is Friday)
Sat:
-Early Car Ferry to STJ (I like to have my car for exploring)
-Breakfast at Chilly Billy's
-pick a beach, any beach
-laze
-explore in car a little at mid-day (find lunch - maybe Skinny Legs in Coral Bay)
-head to a second beach - more lazing
-dinner in Cruz Bay (I like Rhumb Lines)
-drinks at Woody's
-Ferry Back (not sure what time last car ferry is, you might need to people ferry to stay later)
Sunday:
-breakfast at Burrito Bay Deli
-Early morning at Coki Beach (can do Sea Trekk here if you like - I've never done it)
-Explore STT by car
-lunch at Iggie's at Bolongo Bay
-Megan's Bay for afternoon til dusk
-back to change and for cocktails on deck
-Dinner at Cuzzins
-live music wherever you can find it (check guides)
Monday-
-laze on Sapphire til you go
Well I've got to say, you guys are the best! Bluwater, all i need to do is cut and paste! I don't have to change a thing! As I was reading your suggestions, I started to get butterflies in my stomach! I am so amped now I can't wait! This is going to be great. Thanks, thanks, thanks!! I can't say it enough! Thanks!!!!
did i say thanks LandLockedBeachLover, Gerie and Bluwater!??!
bibi-
You're so welcome. If we helped, that helps us feel betetr about now sitting here with the sad faces after thinking about what we'd do IF we were about to go 🙁
Don't go to Cuzzin's on a Sunday! They are closed!
Another late night spot would be the GreenHouse in Charlotte Amalie, I would recommend a taxi for that, as parking can be tough.
Going to Magens Bay, I would recommend, going up to Mountain Top, have a drink, shop a bit and enjoy the view then, down to Drakes Seat then, to Magens Bay, stopping at Udder Delight either on the way in or on the way out.
If you enjoy shopping be sure to block some time for Charlotte Amalie, it's worth the experiance, lots of good deals.
Have a great trip 🙂
Awwww...Cuzzins is closed on Sundays or closed for the season? Either way, too bad she won't get to try Cuzzins. The food is yummy!
Cuzzin's regular hours- Lunch: Monday through Saturday, Dinner: Tuesday through Saturday. (Notice- They close at about 4ish Monday- no dinner!) *Always* closed on Sunday so the cuzzins can relax!! They sometimes also close for a period in September, too, for painting, cleaning, redecorating. And yes, you are right- great conch, kallaloo and chicken salad, among other things!
That reminds me why it is always a good idea to call ahead- businesses sometimes close for what seems like strange reasons. Duffy's takes their employees on a trip, people go off-island during the slow season, etc.
