Sorry for silly first-timer questions, but with my 1st trip to STT & STJ coming up, I have a lot of them.
This round's questions are:
Is there somewhere I can buy fresh coconuts on STT or STJ?
(for example on other islands they have coconut trucks where a guy with a machete will cut them for you to drink the coconut water.)
Is there a particular snorkeling area where more sea turtles are present?
Where are the iguana's most frequently found?
cdamion:
O.K. here goes....on STT.
Coconuts...Smith Bay Road at the fruit stand(s).
Sea Turtles.....this is probably seasonal, but we see them in front of the Point Pleasant Resort.
Iguanas.....again at the Point Pleasant Resort, beware of them falling out of trees....also at Sapphire Beach....and anywhere else on the island.

Hey there - first of all congrats on your first visit as I'm sure it won't be your last! Its our fav island and we've been going for 17 years!!
I can't give you an answer about the coconuts - I've never really searched them out.
Turtles - the most turtles I've seen in one area is out toward Waterlemon Cay
Iguanas - well, we always stay in the villas at the Westin and they have an Iguana Colony there - literally! They feed them every day at 3p - very cool. I can't answer a lot of questions about STT except for the fact - and this is just my opinion - Sapphire Beach is the best! I know more about STJ.
Heading out for the STJ in 1 week - YIPPEE!!8-)
On the iguanas, there are a ton of them roaming the Marriot grounds on STT.
Enjoy your trip!
STJ - Turtles can always be found in Francis Bay ~ 20 yards off shore in the grassy area running parallel to shore towards Mary Point. Can't help you with coconuts & iguanas as I spend more of my time in the water.
Coconuts: There is a truck usually parked near Ft Mylner on St Thomas.
Turtles: They love sea grass, aka turtle grass. As Chris notes, they are not usually near the shore, but out in the middle of the bay. I almost always see them in the outer harbor of Red Hook (as you are leaving on the ferry, for example), Cowpet Bay on St Thomas. There is an area by Little Cinnamon on St John where they congregate, also Hawksnest. Again, if you are on a boat, it is easier to spot them.
Iguanas: Nasty horrible things. They are everywhere. (td)
Coconuts -- shopping cart man in Frenchtown -fruit stand outside Crown Bay Marina
Turtles - Francis , Little Cinnamon, Sapphire, Secret Harbor in order of where I see them most often
Iguanas -- Everywhere they feed them -- you will find them at most hotels and beach restaurants
cocumuts are at the local people with pick ups around the islands
Sapphire Beach out about 100 feet from the beach. Best time is early in the morning and late at night
Iguana are everywhere, They are like xhit.

Surprised no one mentioned Magen's Bay for Coconuts! A rasta dude goes most everyday and can be seen early in the morning climbing the coconut trees to get them! He sits outside the gate and sells them for $2.00. First he opens them for you to drink the milk, then opens them further for you to eat the goop! Locals like them green! Statesiders are more known to eat them after the meat has gotten hard! Enjoy!
Sea Turtles are never that predictable- at least for me! I feel lucky every time I see one!
Iggie's are everywhere! They love red Hibiscus flowers and you can slowly walk up to them and feed them! I fed a wild one by my house just the other day! Was surprised he let me get that close! The hotel Iggie's are used to people being around! I LOVE Iguana's!
Enjoy your stay!
Thanks for all the tips!
My wife loves animals and is excited to see the iguanas.
I like snorkeling with the turtles - very relaxing to me.
I love the green coconuts and wish they were available here. Last time I was in Trinidad, I had to stop by the savannah at least 2x per day to get the cold coconuts from one of the rasta guys. Glad to hear they are there.
We'll be at Sapphire Beach, so it sounds like all three should be right nearby.
Thanks again! 4 days, 23 hours and counting!
sherri: I am going to pack up every one of the blasted igaunas I see and send them over to you! :@)
Can't stand iguanas. Had one, he got nasty and almost took off my nose. I also saw an owner of a restaurant try to be nice and feed one, and it wasn't a big one. The owner ended up with a huge cut on his finger that probably needed a stitch or two.
Be careful when you're around them. They're agressive.
I DO agree one should be careful! They are very used to people located by the hotels. I have even had them climb up on my lap so I could feed them. Never had any problems!
East Ender, have lots over here now! 🙂 Digging up the corner of our driveway to lay eggs! It is cool to see all of the baby's once they hatch!
The other day we were cleaning one of the villas for an arrival. A medium iggie came strolling thru, walked around, took a dump in front of the arch door which Jeff then had to clean up and then went for a little dip in the pool! After he got out, that is when I fed him a Hibiscus! I thought this was way cool, but Jeff did not share my sediments! lol!
LOVE IT! 🙂 Tom B, Thanks for the laugh!
Very funny Tom...liked that one.
"I want to wear flip flops for the rest of my life!"
Just do not paint those toes Hibicus Red... 😀
For you ladies with painted toe nails - when the iggies come by on the beach, just dig your toes into the sand.
