I know this topic has been covered many times before on the forum but I'm specifically looking for feedback from those who have experience traveling with little ones. We will be vacationing in STJ in July (YEAH!!) and we will have our 13 month old with us. We are flying with her car seat so I won't need to rent one. Here's my question...which of the 3 options would you choose if you were traveling with a 13 month old?
1. Rent a car on STT and take the car barge
2. Take the long taxi ride to Red Hook (flight gets in at 3:30 so I imagine there will be traffic) and then take the short boat ride and get a car in Cruz Bay
3. Take the short taxi ride and take the long Charlotte Amalie boat ride and get a car in Cruz bay

I'm mostly concerned about the comfort of my daughter and fully aware that a day of traveling that begins early in the morning is already bound to be painful.

Please help me make my decision as I'm afraid to do it "blindly".
Thanks!
Kristi

I know this is such a big decision.
So, if you rent on st john, you would need a taxi to the ferry on St Tom. Last ferry to leave downtown is about 530pm. I look at it this way. The cost to taxi to Red Hook and then ferry, OR taxi to downtown then ferry comes out to be about the same, so I would rather ride on a boat than in a crowded taxi.

But, the other option to rent on St Thomas is good if you can get your rental, then drive to Red Hook in rush hour to get the last car ferry to St John can be tight. But rental rates are cheaper on St Thomas and many rental places will let you ferry the vehicle but you will be responsible for any thing that goes wrong if the vehicle is on St John. I heard First car rental on St Thomas is inexpensive, has decent vehicles and will pick u up at the airport and let you drop off at the airport. I think this is what I will do next time.

I also think about what time we leave from STT on the last day. I generally take a late afternoon flight out of STT and having a rental car that I can turn in at the airport is VERY convenient. I have never rented a car on STJ simply because I want the availability of a car on STT on the last day (we also ALWAYS spend one night on STT before going to STJ so the car on STT is double-handy).

It truly depends on your travel and personal comfort situation.

Good Luck! Have Fun!
