We are going to St. John in August for the first time and are interested in staying in the Coral Bay area. Any suggestions?

We have stayed for the third time up on the Mt. overlooking Coral Bay in a rented villa.

Check out www.caribbeanvilla.com they have some great places to rent.

We need more information before we can help. Who is 'we'? How many in you party? How many bedrooms do you need? What's your budget? There are lots a great villas. Remember you need a Jeep which runs around $70/day.

The Coral Bay area is our favorite because it's quieter and away from the more populated area of the island.

We are my husband and I with the possibility of an older child or two. We are looking for a 1-2 bedroom in Coral Bay for under $2000 for the week.

My wife and I are staying in this nice 2BR villa in Coral Bay in late March. I believe it was $2100/week through Windspree. I will definitely have a trip report when we come back. Based on the pictures...it looks very nice. Beautiful views, hot tub, outdoor shower, A/C, etc.

Don’t necessarily restrict your search to 2-bedroom villas. Many of the larger ones charge by the number of people, not by the # of BRs. My wife and I nearly always wind up with a 3-4 BR home even when it’s just the two of us. And there should be plenty in your price range that time of year.

Calabadsh Cottages would be within your range:

First of all, I would try to use a villa rental company that is on the island. Windspree fits that bill. I've had good luck dealing with Windspree, so that's who I'll use in the future.

Without saying anything bad about any company, I've had a bad experience with Villa Rental Companies that are not on the island (and we'll leave it at that). Just remember nice websites doesn't necessarily equal flawless experience.

The place I would look into is Casa Nita. It has an upstairs Master Bedroom and two bedrooms in the basement. You can easily sleep 6 teenagers/adults in the house and it has a great view.

For my taste, the best bars are on the Coral Bay side. Just so you know, Sea Spirit is a ways beyond Coral Bay. It's pretty remote. We'd looked into staying there, but couldn't work out the schedule.

Lots of places in Coral Bay. Skinny's, Shipwreck, Island Blues, the Sputnik bar (not the diner next door) are basically bars that also have food and occasionally music. There are also a few restaurants that we like: Sweet Plantains, Miss Lucy's, Aqua Bistro. The M&M Donkey Diner (next to the Sputnik bar) has great breakfasts. There's also a barbecue place and a truck/stand operation with good local food at the main intersection as you come into Coral Bay. Also a couple of small markets.

Coral Bay is changing. We still love it, but t's not the same laid-back, placid place it once was. More development. And more of an edge. More crime. Still way safer than my hometown, but still need to take normal precautions.

Bay View, One Particular Harbour,Casa Ya Ya, LaBella..some coral bay villas in the price range you want. this is a great area of st. john, many prefer this location. these villas are rented with Caribbean Villas, who handle villas all over st.john and the office is located in cruz bay.as other posters said..use a company with staff on island to insure there are "real" people to help ypu if need be !! there are other companies on island and all have a good reputation. check this site... www.caribbeanvilla.com -- others are www.windspree.com -- www.destinatonstjohn.com -- www.cateredto.com good luck !!!

We - 2 of us - are thinking of staying at St. John Passion Villa near Rondezvous Bay the end of Nov 2006. Has anyone stayed there or have any info on the Rondezvous area? Thanks so much. Carol

Point Rendezvous is a beautiful area. It is very quiet with stunning views very often over ditliff point and out to Rams Head.On a clear day you can very often see St Croix.
It is a quick and very easy ten minute drive to Cruz Bay and about five minutes to the Westin. We own "Milesaway" in that area and can't imagine being any where else. You would be sure to enjoy.
The home you mention I believe is an older home, but it depends on how luxurious of a place you are looking for.
