My husband and I will be going to St John for the first time in October to be a part of his best friends wedding. This will also be our honeymoon (we got married in May). We would like to do something special for them - any suggestions?

Also, any suggestions for things we "must" do or see as honeymooners?

Thanks for any suggestions/comments!

Cindy

If you like to be out on the water, I would recommend a daysail on one of the many charters available. We went with Captain Phil on the Wayward Sailor and loved our day. It was probably our most memorable day from our trip.

We also did the day sail thing. We chartered the WhiteWing and had a fantastic time. Check out Trunk Bay...it's a must! Look at the cruise ship schedule and pick a day when no ships are in St Thomas...you be glad you did!

You must snorkle!!! If you haven't done this before, its the thrill of a lifetime, all over STJ, far better than any place I've been outside the VIs.

How do I find out the cruise ships schedule? Aslo, can you tell me anything about grocery shopping on the island? We are staying in a villa and would like to keep our "dining out" costs down some.

Thanks!!

Grocery shopping is going to give you sticker shock. It's expensive. It seems we always end up going to at least 3 stores when we are shopping at some stores are cheaper for beer and soft drinks and high on other items in their store like produce and the like.

We always have breakfast in our villa, pack our lunch for the beach and then go out for dinner at night.

You don't have to spend a lot to get good restaurant food in St. John. For terrific BBQ'd chicken and ribs don't miss Uncle Joe's. It's the best buy in town! Also for lunch or dinner there's Polly's up by the Lumber Yard (they have a great pitcher of margaritas....yum). They have good Mexican food at reasonable prices plus you can watch the comings and goings in the harbor. Another place that won't break the bank is JJ's. Cafe Romas has great take-out pizza and wonder Italian food.

If you've got a car and get out to Coral Bay try Skinny's of course and Island Blues. And don't miss Miss Lucy's Sunday brunch for great eggs benedict or banana pancakes.

We sent our daughter and son-in-law down for their honeymoon and they have been going every years since (except this year when they gave us our first grandchild (little girl). They will resume their yearly trips when Margo is old enough to travel.

Have a wonderful time checking out every beach. Hike a couple of trails. Snorkel and soak up the sun. Leave some things to do on your next trip down. I promise you you will leave planning your next visit.

Thanks for the info!!

We would like to take our friends who are getting married to a really good restaurant - can you recommend some places? Price does not matter.

Thanks!

1st choice - Bordeaux Mountain. Fabulous view of Coral Bay and and great meal. Reservation are a must.

2nd choice - I love Italian so Cafe Roma is one of my favorites. Not fancy but oh so good.

3rd choice - We always have to go to Morgan's Mango at least once. I always get the steak with chimichuri sauce. The rest of my family love fish so that's their choice.

4th choice - Tage gets great review but I haven't eaten their yet. That's on my list for next trip.

Keep in mind that 'fancy' in St. John is not quite like 'fancy' anywhere else. That's what's so great about STJ. You can get a good meal anywhere but I second the motion of the day sail. That's special and far more memorable than a dinner in any restaurant.

Here's any idea.......take a snorkle trip to the Indians and Norman Island and grab a bite to eat on the Willy T. That's a honeymoon memory that none of you will ever forget! Forget the fancy shmancy dinner and enjoy a whole day with your friends making lasting memories and take lots of pictures. You'll want to relive it over and over again.

Hello Cindy,

Scroll to the top of this page and you will see Cruise Guide & Schedule - click there. The schedule is released monthly.

Read the trip report Wes just posted, he discusses some of the grocery stores as well as restaurants and activities he did on St. John; you'll find his report helpful.
