It's once again time for the yearly gathering that was begun by a group of regulars who met by posting on the STT/STJ AOL Message Board. This dinner has expanded to welcome any and all others who would like to join us, just as we've spread out to enjoy other message boards and forums such as this.

This year the dinner will be held on Thursday, August 9, at Wikkid located at Yachthaven Grand. We will be gathering at about 6:30 or so and plan to sit for dinner about 7.

It would be great to meet all who would like to join us.

I'd love to meet other forumers, so I'll be there. FYI - Reichold is hosting the Chamber After Hours that same night starting at 5:30, so you can actually start partying there, and boogie on over to Wikked for the Forum Gathering.

I am headed down this Thursday for a few days. Don't know if I will around next week or not but if so I will stop by.

Regards,
HB

ms411 I'm so glad you will be attending. I hope some other forum regulars or irregulars will also join us.

Can you please tell me what the Chamber After Hours is? I like boogeying. I always think of "after hours" gatherings as starting at 3 am. Is there somewhere to find more information on this?

HB770 I hope you will be around to join us as well. It seems like as good an excuse as any to extend a trip to the islands. "Sorry, Boss, I was going to come home and go back to work, but you see there was this dinner........"

At least once or month, but usually twice, the ST/STJ Chamber of Commerce schedules what they call an After Hours (in the States they were called Mixers) hosted by different Chamber members. The host provides FREE snacks, and they have their "Famous $2 Bar" (mostly rum, wine, beer, maybe something else), and they're held at different venues. Last one was at Cafe Amalia in Palm Passage sponsored by some health something out of Miami, but they had decent food (most important thing!) - some kind of meatballs, some little curried rice cakes, I think two kinds of quiches, of course chicken wings, and some other stuff I've forgotten.

But this month it's at Reichhold (sp?), and last year it was first class! They'll announce their schedule for the new season, and they usually have an interesting menu, and of course, Reichhold is always beautiful.

I go just so I can keep up with what's going on on the island.

ms411, that sounds like a lot of fun. Is it open to everyone? No membership or residency status? Any old tourist can show up? Is there music, too? I doubt we could make it to both the Chamber After Hours and dinner at Wikkid, though. I've never been to Reichold because they never present anything there in August, which is when I'm on St. Thomas every year.

LOL! Yes, anybody can show up - they don't ask any questions at the door 🙂

As to whether there's music, it depends on the host. I'm trying to remember what they had last year, but I'm almost sure they did have at least one local performer.

I never sign in when I go - only because there's usually a line, and I hate lines. I just walk right past. They sell raffle tickets, and you get something when you sign in, but whatever it is, it's not worth it to me to stand in line.

Let me decide now what I'll wear so you can look for me - lilac sleeveless top and lilac capri pants with lavendar shoes. I'm African-American, short natural hair, and glasses. I may be with at least 2 other women. I'll be there at the stroke of 5:30.

ms411,

I'm completely amazed that you can know what you will be wearing a week from now.

If we show up at the stroke of 5:30 also, will we have time to enjoy ourselves and still get to Wikkid by at least 6:45? Would it be seen as rude if we leave at 6:15 or so? (Sheesh....so much rushing on island time...) I'll have to run it by John., but I'd love to go to the After Hours.

Will you still be joining us at Wikkid for dinner? Of course your friends are also welcome. And even if we don't get to Reichhold we'll look for the woman in lilac at Wikkid.

I always miss this dinner and it bums me out each year. Schultz, Gerie, and I wonder if Marie is going...and Linda? What about Ruth and RonUSVI?

I recall the one that I missed at the Chart House - and how much fun you all had. I was there in June or July that year,I think. Was that AOL forum days? --- ahhhhhhh, the yesteryears..

Please raise a glass for those of us who can't coordinate the visit with the annual dinner.

Rarely is the host completely set up at 5:30 (which really fries me), so I doubt that the serving will begin at that time, though maybe by 5:45 or so.

If you leave at 6:15 though, you'll probably miss the presentation, though it won't be rude to leave at that time. It's one of those things where people come and go, but the raffle is the incentive that encourages most people to stay.

As to what I'm wearing, if I wear a black dress, I might be one of the hundreds wearing black dresses, so I didn't think that would work. Besides, I got new lavendar shoes and want to wear them!

Bluwater,

We will include you in our toast to those who are with us only in spirit. Every year there are a few regulars who cannot make it and every year we seem to add a few new faces to the group. Marie won't be able to join us this year as she is not heading down to STJ in the summer. I don't know if Ruth will come or not as she usually travels across Pillsbury Sound for the dinner with Marie.

There were 7 of us. Sorry you didn't show ms4l1. Seeing old friends at the same time every year is great. See you next time!

Most of us had the Cubanos sandwiches! Gerie and John had the pasta specials. Pat had apps. Can't remember what Pooh had?

Ron and gang, I was sorry, too. I had to work late, and was too pooped to party after a long day. Glad to hear everyone had a good time, and I love hearing about the food!
