Hi, foind a real deal on a cruise this month with a 1 day stop in STT. Usually, when I go to a new island I rent a scooter and explore. HATE crowded touristy places and want some beautifull beach time and some painkillers. Any recomendations?
Chris

You could head to Magens Bay and be sure to go all the way to your left (far left side of the beach). Magens is a very large beach and the cruise ship folks tend to stay right in front of the bar/restaurant area. You can find a quiet area. However, you won't be near the bar for your painkillers.

Secret Harbour, as far as I know, isn't on the cruise ship excursion list...so you'll get away from the ship crowds there. They have a bar and restaurant on the beach, so you'll have your painkillers there.

Emerald Beach (Lindberg Bay) is also probably not on the ship schedule and has outdoor seating and bars for painkillers. There are a couple of small hotels on the beach, so there will be people....but not a ship kind of crowd. The beach is fine and the water is pretty and calm.

There are lots of "get away from everyone" beaches on STT, but they don't have bars or restaurants.....and some are heard to reach unless you rent a 4WD and know your way.

Really, the more crowded places will have your painkillers being served and the uncrowded places don't serve anything. You might be better off making a choice between the two (except for Secret Harbour - which has both)

One note of caution. scooters and painkillers don't mix well on STT. You will be driving on the LEFT ( unfamiliar territory), on hilly, curving roads all unfamiliar and crazy safari and other island drivers. It can be intimidating to say the least. Good Luck.

Harley-Davidson riders come here almost every month, and they bring their Harleys and ride the hills, but they have police and local escorts to ensure their safety.

If you do rent a scooter, the easiest beach to get to is Emerald/Lindberg beach which is near the airport. This is the same beach that the Harley riders stop at as part of their bike tour. I think if you check Harley's site, you'll see their cruise calendar. You may want to avoid this beach when they're scheduled to be here. There are no hills on the way, but it's a fairly short ride, maybe 3 miles.

You might want to limit your ride to the island's west side, which is past Emerald Beach (don't make the turn towards the airport - stay on the highway heading towards the University). There are incredible views, and it's much less touristy. Then stop at Emerald Beach on the way back, making sure you allow plenty of time for those painkillers to wear off before heading back to the ship! Check the VINOW map for the route(s).

Be safe and enjoy!
