The Alvaro de Lugo Post Office (or Emancipation Garden Post Office) was constructed between 1937 and 1938, replacing an existing post office building. Stop by and mail post cards to friends and family back home. Look for murals painted by renowned Saturday Evening Post artist Stevan Dohanos. The paintings were part of the Section of Fine Arts program established in 1934 by the Treasury Department. The Dohanos’ murals are entitled: "The Virgin Islands, U.S. - The Outer World Significance" and "The Leisurely Native Tempo". Many post office murals around the mainland United States have vanished over the years; others need repair. These two murals are in really good condition.
